Intense Graphics

Some would say it's bland. I would say it's craptacular. The much touted graphics are actually only good in certain situations, such as deep forests and some other places, but are really sub-par in most others, like indoors.

Gothic 3 would probably give your system a run for the money. (then again it does still have some memory leaks, but with a REALLY powerful system upping the graphics looks really nice)

Oh and speaking of Gothic 3, there is a community patch currently in production (already up to version 1.3.1, soon to be 1.4) and it fixes a crapload of bugs (quests ones, annoying sound loops, etc) Worth picking up if one is to play (or play again) Gothic 3.

Edit: Oh and Oblivion is a pretty bland/dumb game. AI is crap and quests are boring. Visuals can be fun like DDD said when one wanders through the landscape. I did that for a bit while riding a horse. Other than that definitely not worth anyones time.

It's alright loaded with the right mods.
On the technical side, Oblivion is a pig that uses far more resources than it's graphics would suggest.

Graphics-wise, it wasn't that impressive, and requires editting/modifications to make it look less ugly (hence, all the hype that it's blamed, for, I won't even get into a discussion about RAI). The first thing you'll notice is the ugly faces. I could probably make a long list of graphical problems/errors/repugnantness if I cared to take the precious time to.

There is a method of making the terrain less bland by using the console, but I can't remember how it goes. I imagine there are mods out there that enhance the graphics, like there were for Morrowind, but I gave up on Oblivion after a week and duct taped the box shut with the disc inside and placed a curse on it should anyone dare open it in the future.

I think I'll go for Gothic 3. The RPG Codex review was very nice.

Does anyone play Battlefield?

If you like space sims then X3:Reunion is one of the better looking ones. It's pretty hard-press to run it at full settings at high resolution on anything other than a government supercomputer.

:/ I already have FEAR.

I played Doom 3 on XBOX, so I got the story and the scares, and I played Quake 4 on PC, so I know how good the graphics are and I am very tired of them...The generic science lab is not that fun when you've been playing the same map (though different "levels") for hours.

Well, if like you said, you're going for graphics, skip it. Battlefield 2 or 2142 isn't that impressive. I mean, it's not bad, but I didn't drool over any of it. The gameplay for Battlefields are horrid, in my opinion, but then again, most online FPSs are these days. I play it rarely, but only when a friend or family member suggests it. If you want a good online FPS, get Red Orchestra.

So, I picked up Lost Planet today. I'm pissed off about Steam already, and this is just during the install. (Why do I need to login to Steam in order to install?!)

I like the look of Red Orchestra; tactical, Unreal 2.5, Soviet front of WWII. Sounds good. Bad part is that it looks like a Steam exclusive(?) and I'm not sure about downloading it.

Edit:

And now I have to patch? I'm forced to patch. The only time I patch a game is for online play, and I didn't even know this one has online...I don't care, dammit.

Yes, but on a good day I get 56 kb/s downstream!

I've never run into major bugs, really. Except in Fallout, but I use Killap's patches. :)

Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy.

Incredible visuals.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is also quite good.

Rainbow Six: Vegas.

The engine isn't that great, but the game still looks very nice. Co-op terrorist hunts just seem like so much damn fun to me.

Gothic 3 is another good rig tester. Gameplay can be frustrating at times(50 exp. animals can kill you 10x easier than a 300 exp. orc), but the game is still fairly enjoyable.

I didn't think so. The amount of Bloom is extremely annoying and ugly and when it's removed the game looks quite shitty. Also, it's an unnecessarily heavy resource hog.

I upgraded my computer so I could play it, it look pretty, but it made me get bored even faster. Damn that dual core! The game is a piece of shit. It gives you no sense of accomplishment because you can walk anywhere and kill anything at any stage.
