<blockquote>Commenting on the announcements, Interplay Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Herve Caen said, "This has been an incredibly challenging first half of 2004 for Interplay, its investors and employees. Although significant hurdles remain, we are pleased to be back in compliance with the OTC Bulletin Board, moved into our new corporate offices, and moving forward with our plan to enter into Massively Multiplayer Online Gaming."</blockquote>This means IPLYE goes bye-bye, and we're back to IPLY, plus Herve gets to continue his fantasy for FO:OL.

Damn, somebody should stop this Fallout Online bullshit.

*bombs the Interplay headquarters*

Edit:

I mean, don't they understand it will be a failure? How many Fallout fans will play this more than just for a try, eh? And how many non-fans will be interested in it?
A company that it's in this awful condition, with its best men gone sure doesn't inspire too much trust.
How one is supposed to know that after one gets FO:OL and plays it for a while, Interplay will not stop it because of uh, technical problems?

i wont buy it as i prefer to get addicted to one time payment games, jeez id be fucked if i found a game i loved that cost 12 quid a month...i know im safe though from FOOL as it will suck :P

I would buy it, iI always wondered what Multi Player fallout would be like when i played FO2.

I think its gonna end up being like everquest with guns and sand. (and super mutants)

End result is I'll be hooked cuz I like fallout too much ><

EDIT: everything in the { } I didnt write.... and I dunno why its showing up ><

I'm a pretty disciplined guy, but even I don't have the willpower to atleast not try it once.

I admit that if the game is made, I'll probably shell out 12-15$ or whatever for a 1 month go at it.

It would be pretty damn cool if they made the game turn-based.

I use to play this Sierra (I think CodeMasters owns it now) MMORPG called "The Realms." It's a real oldschool fantasy RPG and it was completely turn-based. I remember the combat as being extremely strategic and fun as hell.

I got bored with the whole fairies and orges thing, though.

But man, if someone made a MMORPG like "The Realm" with a modern setting... shit, I'd probably shell out 30$ a month for it. Heh, I actually hope Interplay f's up and makes a total crap, Real-Time game.
Because if the game ended up being turn-based, and I liked it. I would hate, hate, HATE to know that my money was going to them.

But like I said, there's a lack of turn-based MMORPG's, and I would be a sucker for such a thing.

If it turned out to be worth putting money into then obviously i would.. but what are the chances of that? hmm.

plus everyone here i'm sure would rather see a propper fallout.

Having TB combat, with the "cloud of battle" and the combatants being put in a separate field precludes a number of design aspects commonly found in MMOGs today, and takes away from a lot of modern MMORPG combat in itself unless PvP is a non-issue. The mechanics would either become unbelievably convoluted or flawed if combat was TB in a MMOG. Even FF couldn't retain the TB system because it wouldn't have appealed to most of the MMORPG cattle.

Why are you talking as if the game would ever be released? Seriously, there`s no chance in hell that ever happens, at least by Interplay.

So it's decided. We've got a loser here even before it's released.

Between myself, Saint, Xotor, and others, we've pretty much come to the conclusion years ago that a Fallout Online would not work anything near what people expect, much less retain any sense of a believable setting in a MMORPG environment.

May the Vault Dweller hear you!

And continue on with the Matrix Online joke... :)

We're not going by the assumption that it will be. We've been over FOOL in the sense of real-time as well a multitude of times over, it has become old hat. So has the topic of a TB combat FOOL that we've been over a number of times (I have brought up The Realm in that context before because I had played it from quite early in its cycle and still watch who has it from time to time), but for brevity's sake, we were merely going along that conversation line.

I hear you...

I thought the deviation from story in F: Tactics was scary, but F:PoS made me lose hope for Interplay...all hope. I believe the company will die before F:OL will be made and even if it is...it'll just have lots of stuff to fill it (lots of time invested for level ups to fight different colored monsters that are stronger to spend lots of time leveling up...) the whole time so people play longer to spend more time...not really enjoying the game...just going through the motions. Thats why I dont play online.

Roshambo is right...they are cattle. Though player to player interaction creates plot heavy stuff that your in control of...the games themselves have nothing in them.

(looks at the forlorn copy of Asheron's Call 2 he played for a two weeks and gave up on)

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Hey Roshambo, do you still play The Realm? I have 4 characters, I think. Lost Metal/King Mot/Naizelar/Naiz.

I still pay for my account but I barely ever play (it's only 50$ a year).

I played that game to death back in the day, but the setting eventually made me stop playing (fairies and whatnot, not my thing).

-----------
If you don't mind reiterating some points you made in prior posts... What do you think are the major flaws of a Fallout style game with a The Realm style game engine?

Major flaws I see are
1:Different view (3rd person)
2:No combat in towns (this would be easy to remedy, just make all the towns act like forests/dungeons)
3:Can't jump into a combat cloud
4:Horrible trading system (no trade window)

Of course, this is sort of a dumb series of thoughts. Considering they would never use The Realm engine for FO:OL.

Lets hope that herve woud fall on a knife in a dark alley on his lungs and woud painly die

I share Briosafreak's opinion.

What chances art there, that it will ever be released?
What unholy force has to be conjured for this?
