Ausir from RPGCodex posted an interview with the boss of project Trinity. Some bits:

4. Where and when does the game take place? What's unique about the world of Trinity, that makes it different from other post-nuclear cRPGs?

The game world is Middle Europe, which in the year 2002 was hit with a nuclear war. The time available to the player ranges from 2017 to 2084 (the end date depends on the PC's death). The world of Trinity is a world that has survived a global nuclear war.

(...)

6. Will the game be linear or not? How much freedom will the player have in exploring the world and the plot?

The player will have only one purpose after starting the game: to survive as long as he can. We might give the PC some quest to do, which will be his goal in life. However, as in life, he won't have to reach it. All the quests, campaigns, adventures, will be only an addition to the Great History of the World. In this game, the PC won't be a hero saving the mankind. The history of the world will be created by those that inhabit it, and the PC won't be able to influence the most important events. He will be able to try to get to know its details, meet the NPCs creating the history, or run from the place of historic events - for his own good.

(...)

11. What combat system will be implemented in Trinity? Will the combat be turn-based or real-time?

Turn based combat is much easier to do. That's definitely what we'll start with.

Good job RPGCodex, looks good

I really don't like the sound of that. While it might be more realistic or something, it just doesn't sound very fun. I don't want a realistic story when I'm playing a computer game (granted it does take place after nuclear war). If I wanted a realistic story, I'd play the Law and Order PC game.
I think the whole purpose of RPG's is to become someone fantastic, doing things that you'd never be able to do (like save the world from the Enclave). I want HIGH ADVENTURE and really cool quests. Not boring, "lets go to the supermarket" everyday life type of quests.

But every RPG have save-the-world quest. We want'to create something different. Our game may still be interesting and fun.

I think it's a bad idea to remove character interaction from major events. I mean, it worked well in Arcanum. In my opinion, a system which had major events happen in a timed fashion, for instance, would work better, as this way, players could get different play experiences.

Isn't it a bit of a contradiction to say, we don't want to put limitations on players, but then put a timer on the game (the PC's lifespan)?

I totally agree. But then of course, if they want to make the game THAT realistic...

But I still don't get what Trinity is all about (type of game?). Any screenshots? When will the english site be up?

I think it's a great idea. It takes freedom to a new level. Maybe the PC could influence the world if he/she tries hard enough...

We said in interview:
The time available to the player ranges from 2017 to 2084 (the end date depends on the PC's death).
So year 2084 isn't exact end of game date. If player will live longer, game will not end, but how long PC can live? In 2084 PC will be 82 years old.

We should be ready with English version of our site in about two weeks. Screens also will be soon. Concept arts are already published and more are on the way. If you don't know what Trinity is, check my site, especially this address.

Wow this game sounds better to me every time I hear something new. Can't wait to see some screenshots.

ps. I'm tired of saving the world singlehandedly, sounds good to just live a life in a world that doesn't exist. Great idea guys, hopefully other people will see it my way too.

What I think they are aiming to is not "let's go to the supermarket" thing but more like not letting you influence the way the world will be shaping. By the way I understand it, you will still have influence on the worl but on a lesser scale. Something like help build/defend a town, save friends/dog/wife from death, get part of organisations, find a cure for an illness, find a way to extend your life...

We gamers have the habit of saving the world, and other actions might seem unimportant to us in comparision, but something as small as earning respect in an organisation or from a group of people is already a great achievement.

Nobody is really able to change the world singlehandedly like in the fallouts. More realism doesn't mean you can't influence the world. Take Bush for exemple, he is on a quest to "save" the world, but he is not doing this alone. It's surely not entirely his decision to act like he does, he might even be only a puppet, but he still has a big part in the way the world is evolving. Changing the world is really difficult. People have great ideas but it take decades before society even looks at it and begins to change. That is realism. But realism can be epic. :D

Still there's nothing saying one person cannot make a difference. Suppose one city is being attacked by a gang of raiders, and that this battle is going on for years, with neither side actually winning. Suddenly a stranger (the PC) comes to town, and is requested to help by both groups, because neither side knows him/her, so the PC can take advantage of that and spy one of the factions for the others' benefit. If the raiders are brought down, raiding in the area will finish, and the area itself can become a strong community; working against the city however, might give raiding operations a larger area, and the city itself can now either become one large raider outpost. and the overall area might be unsuitable for trading, or settling down.

Its not exactly a case of a single person "saving the world", but rather, meddle in the world's affairs in a way that combined efforts can destroy or revitalize the world. One person can always make the difference, given certain conditions.

Portal

Portal
... He will be able to try to get to know its details, meet the NPCs creating the history, or run from the place of historic events - for his own good. ...

""Quest"" for knowledge reminds me of "Portal", a C-64 title.
It was so staggeringly different in those days, that it was an engrossing hunt. Worth the finicky "rules" of completing each level to unlock the next nugget of knowledge.

Being the prophet or piriah of truth may be a role large enough to hang any amount of point generating rat killing, or culling, for all you aspiring 'action figure' wannabee's.

Still bein' a ""DO"" bee .....

But actions like this one will be possible in Trinity. It isn't saving the world quest. I didn't say that one man don't have possibility to change local history of single city/cities.
