IPLY Rumours

The latest rumour concering Interplay is that Herve Caen/IPLY have been talking to David Bowman of Artifact Entertainment/Tulga Games since the beginning of the year about Tulga doing the Fallout MMORPG.

An anonymous source told us that the negotiations continues and that he's afraid Artifact Entertainment/Tulga Games will wreak the Fallout name even more then what IPLY did with Fallout Bos (Xbox,PS2).

True or false ?

Hmmm... I don't think I know anything about Artifact or Tulga. What else have they done?

Oh, and how could you wreck the Fallout name more than the console knock off? I mean, is it a post nuclear world where radiation has allowed wizards to cast spells and everyone fights with swords, plus supermutants are going to be replaced by "Orcs". Is it that sort of bad?

Hey I just converted the spiders from baldurs gate 2 into Fallout 2 models so we can now make a mod of Dark Allian.... opps... I mean FOBOS on the PC. Th eplayer will go the the local Bar and the owner will give him a key to go down into his cellar and kill of the spiders that are there

Herve sure knows how to pick his development team. Artifact Entertainment when through chapter 11 in July.

Huh...first time I've heard of Tulga Games.

It is also the first time I've heard anyone stupid enough to buy an Evercrap clone. But hey, bad publicity is still publicity, I guess.

MPOGD Reviews Horizons

Multiplayer Online Games Directory reviews Horizons, calling it "Breathtaking."

That is certainly an optimistic way of spin-doctoring "it sucks". :D

I did some betatesting on Horizons about a year ago and I must say the game is one of my favorite mmorpgs. Great graphic's, feeling is fine, great music. If I were about to make a mmorpg with limited (seems to be the case) resources I would defenitly consider their engine... and since Horizon is free to play for seven days you can all try it out on their homepage. might be worth it, maybe we can push them in the right direction...

From where Cean has the money to fund stuff like this :?: every time i think he finally kicked the bucket he just rise again with some stupidity and another try to fuck up fallout............

well.. erhm... IF he got the money for it and a killer team that could pull it off I would like to see it happen... even if its doomed from the beginning. I encourage every try.

Horizons was okay. However it lacked decent support.

And matters were even worse for Europeans because of the absolutely clue- and useless support agency they wired Non-American players up with.

OMG say it isn't so...

Artifact Entertainment - the company founded by David Allen the biggest lying piece of crap in the games industry (worse even than Herve if you can believe it).

Artifact Entertainment - the company that almost went bankrupt about 500 billion times until David Allen finally suckered a bunch of investors into buying into the vaporware (sowing the seeds of his own corporate destruction).

Artifact Entertainment - that finally kicked out David Allen and his crowd of developer wanabes (who went on to found another game dev company that has done nothing) and finally crapped out Horizons, which, all things considering, was 1000x better than it had any right to be.

Artifact Entertainment - that finally died a long languishing "un-death" including laying off of it's entire Dev staff in June 2004. It currently has about as much of an existence as IPLY.

It is a sad, sordid tale that connects to IPLY way back in 1998 when Feargus signed David Allen to publish his "shareware but not" game "Demise: Rise of the Kutan" which sold about 10 copies for IPLY and which was soooooo bad that Feargus eventually denied any relationship with product or developer (even though Black Isle artists supplied much of the art (including interfaces) and models that eventually appeared in the game). BTW - ask David why none of those Black Isle artists or programmers showed up in the credits for Demise - there was never any acknowledgment anywhere. Very David Allen - "I did it all" "everyone is against me" "everyone else is a cheat".

Don't have time to write the parts of the story that I know, but here are some juicy bits for those interested in peering into the darker past... and BTW I had the misfortune of working with David Allen once upon a time and I can call him a habitual liar from personal experience.

Actually this confirms alot I've heard lately about David, sounds like a character that shouldn't touch the Fallout name AT ALL..

Eck, I say!

David, we know too much about you....

From June 28th, 2000... PRE David Allen finding sucker investors to bail out his "dream" of a MMPORPG that he has 0% experience in knowing how to make...

ARTIFACT ENTERTAINMENT PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT: HORIZONS PROJECT 1:35pm
It is with both hope and regret that I inform the gaming community of the serious problem that has arisen in relation to the HORIZONS project. As you know, HORIZONS was supposed to be a privately funded project; the problem is that the funding has fallen through, and the project is now facing extinction.

We have been in talks with a publisher for close to two months now and have just been informed that it's going to take them even longer to make their 'decision', and the problem is that we cannot last during this amount of time (we have already been privately and personally funding HORIZONS for the past 9 months). At this time, we have a team of roughly 20 people; many of them industry professionals that are migrating from other companies to work on HORIZONS. This team will fall apart and be disbanded over the next few weeks unless something is done.

According to the current Gamespot poll, Horizons is the #1 anticipated MMORPG in the industry right now. We have concepts and designs that are both unique and industry leading planned for the project; many of them not even known to the public (some are of such an innovative nature that we cannot release the information until BETA). HORIZONS has been labeled by many as the most ambitious and feature-rich publicly announced game in the industry.

It is at this time that we call on the public community to help keep HORIZONS together.

I am personally in debt for hundreds of thousands of dollars with Artifact Entertainment and trying to make this project fly. I have put everything that I have into this, including my house, lifestyle, and even more (I sold my NSX a few weeks ago just to cover base business costs). I have tried to maintain a positive mentality with this project, but I can only do so much, and relying on others who apparently don't take the project as serious as we do has been nothing but degrading to the entire project.

As far as I can tell, the only way that HORIZONS will be bailed out is if somebody acts quickly and works with us to make this amazing project a reality with the proper financial support (millions of dollars). We have the people, the talent, the design & concept, and even more importantly, the drive and ability to make this project a reality. We are only interested in working with those who will not waste our time and are interested in making things happen instead of talking about it.

If you or anyone you know is capable of helping AE out with the HORIZONS project, please contact me immediately at davida@artifact-entertainment.com. We are open to both private funding and publishing deals.

I will make an official announcement shortly as to the status of the project.

Regardless of how things turn out, I want to thank everyone for their support.

***********

Wait a second David... you either sold your NSX or you didn't... You wouldn't be lying to the gaming community to "drum up" investor support would you?

Soooo, in light of Chromosome 25's delicious information I suggest boycott in the event this happens.

To the best of my knowledge, David Allen is no longer working in the game industry. He is now director of IT for Mortgage Coach in Irvine.

People are not thinking here, 'cause the news is surprisingly likely...

The latest new was that Ballerium was pretty much finished, but lacked servers. Seriously, we all know Interplay's age-old standards of when a game is ready to be released and I don't care how bug-ridden Ballsack still is, as long as it passes the start-up screen Interplay will say it's a-okay and ready to go.

But no servers. Last news (which is quite some time ago) from the Ballerium people was that Interplay's staff was looking for Servers;

On the 3rd of February said:
Yes, signals from Interplay show we're getting closer to servers, though it will take some more time, since the issue is to be solved in its broader context (not just servers)

The options are either that Interplay didn't invest fully in Balleria-um and held back to later re-invest into Fallout Online, which would be the smarter move and thus highly unlikely. That or Interplay invested like shit in Ballerium and now has to look for more funds, sucks to be them.

Now what would then make sense? Just selling the FOOL license like they did the Fallout license? Not likely. But hey, here's a company that has servers up and running that might just be expanded upon to host Ballerium. Dear.

Man, my head's get all a spin with this. The pure excitement. Yawn?
