Isolating materials

I'm looking for a material that absorbs sound very well, but lets most heat through. It needs to be as cheap as possible.

I'm going to use it for building furniture, so it needs to be pretty solid and suited for construction. Someone here has to study materials science.

are you sure you're not trying to abduct some kid and hold it in your basement?

.. just a thought.

I don't know if i'm spelling it right, or if there is this kind of word in english at all, but it is photoplast . Wink if you didn't understand what it is :) Actually it is called similar in my language.

Edited:

Also there is glass. Not the old heated up Silicon, but the modern glass full of different components.
If any of these don't fit, go to a music instrument store and ask. They have to know what materials stop sound. Or you could ask any music group you know, if you know that is.

Well, it really depends, what kind of furniture you want to make. It depends of the kind of sound, the intensity of the heat source. You might try plain old steel. It's solid, it quite cheap, it conducts heat, it's easy to work with, and it is quite good at absorbing sound if made properly.

Absorbing sound with hard materials: THIN AND LIGHT-WEIGHT: The metal plates are under 1 millimetre in thickness and need a few centimetres of space behind them to deaden the echoes of bass and mid-range sounds...
Just use the google, d"##1t.
