It’s been 17 years and still…

Water Chip? Been There, Done That
When I was younger, I was a very passionate gamer. I liked all kinds of games, from 4X to shooters (i.e. Civilization started with Amiga500, the RPG’s started C64 Wasteland, and so on).
I didn’t really care about franchises at first, since I was a kid, but Wasteland already had me with randomness and how fun (and realistic. It felt you were always on finding something new (something that Bethesda tries and fails constantly).

An what got me to Fallout, was the idea that, even if limited by the presentation, I had the opportunity to play as I felt with given natural boundaries. It felt natural, it was designed to be natural. It seemed that I had more possibilities than I actually did, and it was ”by design”. And I loved it. Loved it!

I was exctatic about the possibility of Van Buren. Totally exctatic. Until it all ended…

But then, someona had bought yhe property. ”There’s still a chance”, I thought. And I kept to it the most if the design… for my own and the game, because I wanted to believe it was going to be the one and only ”resurrection” of the franchise.

In 2008 all that was gone, none of it remained. Everythin came down. I even left the community, because I couldn’t take the change (I still had the urge to get nice games), but I stopped following.

When I heard Obsidian was making a New Fallout, I was upp, I thought they were gonna make ”the fallout sequel”, but I still remember the disappointment I had when Obsidian announced that New Vegas was going to be a first person shooter like 3.

I was actually shaking at the time. No joke.

When I heard what they were doing, what they had to do, I actually collapsed.
I did not think I’d ever be as disappointed as with Falliutv3, but I was.

Fallout new vegas was an rps storynod for fallour 3.

It had its good moments, but those moments were always fake in the way it used to be.

When Fallout 4 was announced, I knew it was finally over. What had been a fountain of storytelling potential, had turned into fuck all were the best, since of what ever people wanted.

And now it is a netfix charade.

Why do things have to go like this?

“Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends. I have not much hope that Gollum can be cured before he dies, but there is a chance of it. And he is bound up with the fate of the Ring. My heart tells me that he has some part to play yet, for good or ill, before the end; and when that comes, the pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many - yours not least.”

Fallout deserved a better fate, but this is the hand that was dealt to us.

the franchise is dead to me, i am thankful that arcanum is dead and not another oblivion with guns but steampunk

fallout is important to me, it left a lasting impressions on me, it was truly a special experience that i can't forget

let's remember this franchise before the bad and the ugly fondly, what it represent for us and for the industry, go back and replay what left for us now and ever, and maybe... we will get something better to look at

hahah ah geez man I just read this - after you posted in my fonline 2258 post! I felt the same way about Fallout and seeing it change so much... I do enjoy the Wasteland series current as is tho, and Fallout New Vegas, but you are the type of fan I made FOnline 2258 for.

FOnline 2258.com is supposed to be the continuation of the magic and nostalgia of Fallout 1 and 2 but open ended and trying to be endless, so that there will always be more room to add new content. It's Fallout 1/2 Forever! But online... with loot drop and pvp rofl (players aren't mean tho so don't make enemies).

All of these Fallout 1/2 mods just couldn't cut it for me so when I saw that there was a chance to take over the development of the traditional FOnline servers/engine/community/etc I rushed on it. Learnt what I could with the time I could, went around different servers learning the tricks n trades of the "Fallout Online" world and eventually found the time and patience to just make my own server and keep it old school, traditional, etc.

I can't go back to Fallout 1 or Fallout 2 anymore without thinking about FOnline 2258 or even the time I'm wasting not making new content for it. FOnline 2258 IS Fallout 2.5 Forever! I do love Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 but after all these years of developing and working on the online clone of the original games I think it's safe to say that its future now lies in my hands and the brilliant other minds behind FOnline 2258! Haha!

Come play, come join our Discord first of all.
Introduce yourself! You'll fit right in with the other hundreds of us that feel the same way as you all do!

Fallout 2.5 Online! Let's keep it going! We update every day!
