Jericho

Meh it looks alright I guess. This I will buy to find out more about it. Just worried about it after the demo. Cause. I'm tired of shooters really and hoping that something comes along different in this one. Though there is not much more you can do with a shooter. I mean, the magic looks reminicant of the magic in the new Shadowrun (wich was pathetic I might add) or maybe even the plasmids in Bioshock. The body leaping ability is cool, but the commands for your compadres are very much like Star Wars Commando, wich is a neat idea as well. Just hope it turns out well, something with a gooooood story.

I also miss Undying now.

Played the demo. I have a feeling it's not very indicative of the actual games' quality tho'. It's very, very short, but nice, so I might check it out.

Tried the demo on Xbox 360. MEH! Feels like a dark gothic version of Doom 3 to me. Kind of silly with the whole "special forces" thing. And the button mashing parts suck.

I played the demo, and I don't like it.

Too much graphics. Too much shininess. Too much bloom. Too much motion blur. Too much blurriness. Too much of everything.

It's just.. overdone.

It feels like everything is coated in a layer of gold, simply trying to claw your eyes out.

The gameplay is no real gem either; single weapon, "psi-powers", regenerating health, etc.

It's a shiny, brainless, and boring generic first person shooter. :|

It was WAY too dark too. Every part of the game was confusing, especially combat was chaotic. And teammate AI was shit.

well, i'd like to remind you that one of the reasons for the sucky AI for Oblivion, was that they had to tone it down because the Xbrick couldnt handle the more advanced stuff. ;)
(which probably says more about Beth's ability to code performant AI rather than the Xbrick's capabilities, but still)

as for Jericho, i suppose it's just a wacky survival horror shoot em up. i'll probably play it since it's been a while since i last played an interesting survival horror.

I agree on this front. It's more like uh.. Doom. Yeah, that doom. From 1994.

Doom is as much of a 'survival horror' as Jericho is.

:?

I'd argue that it is. Especially on harder levels. But, yes, your comparison with Doom 1 is quite accurate. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

To be honest, I've played the demo a few more times and I must say that there is something about the game that I can't quite put my finger on that makes me want to play the whole thing.

Might be the setting.

For me, it would be the WW1 thing. But the whole "team" concept, instead of a lone warrior, especially with such incompetent teammates, is quite meh. So I won't bother. It's not even scary, it's just frustrating because of chaotic combat.

Yes, I love it. It has, as DDD said, a certain quality that I dig without knowing why.

Yes, it's linear; yes, you can use magic internet bullets; yes, you can regenerate health (through magick, which is more plausible than the way COD1-4 and most other FPSs handle it); and yes, the characters are all archetypal; but it's goddamn fun.

Same here. It's quite fun actually. Everything that I said about the demo is applicable to the game. Naturally, there's more of it, so that's great. The art style is great and the game is in-fucking-credibly gory. In fact, it's the goriest game I've ever played.
Other than that, the characters are interesting, the enemies are nasty, the gameplay is simplistic but entertaining, the graphics are pretty nice with some great effects and it runs okay. I've heard it's a bit short, but that's about it.

Most levels are either covered in blood, bodies, or guts, and the floor of one level is made entirely of dead bodies.

How can you not enjoy that?

What's the level design like? I gave up on the demo after getting turned around in a tunnel, I couldn't tell whether I was looking at a wall or the floor. Before that I spent 5 mins at the top of the staircase trying to workout where to go next.

The flashlight could give Doom 3's competition for worst in a video game.

Well, apart from some larger (and pretty impressive) spaces, I'd say that, yes, it is quite claustrophobic, on the other hand, the demo level (especially the part where you only have Church) is probably the most claustrophobic one.

Again, the level design is a bit simplistic, but it serves it's horror purpose quite well, and I like it.

Not really, since there's enough ambient lighting for the game never to feel nearly as bad as Doom3.

Claustrophobia be damned I just hate really dark games and spending more time looking for a side passage than shooting things.

Ambient light, not in the demo. So at least the game proper is an improvement in that respect. :?

Most levels you really, really, don't have to worry about that. As Zorak said, the demo level was an extreme of the game's design.
