Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
say, theres one thing ive startered wondering on......wich is the best ammo type? JHP or FMJ?
 
2mm EC is the *best* ammo type. ;)

As for the FMJ/JHP , I never have the dilemma, because the cool mid-game small arms use .233 ammo
 
JHP against unarmored opponent, FMJ against armored. At least, that's the theory.
 
Are we talking about 5mm ammo?
I've almost never found a time to use it. The only weapons that use it are the low-end miniguns and the assault rifle (and the XL70E3, but that's not really "in" the game). None of these are very good weapons.
The damned hunting rifle is better than the assault rifle. When it comes to big guns, the Bozar is much better than the 5mm miniguns.
 
doesnt the 5mm work on the avenger minigun and the FMJ work in the light assualt weapon?

and arent the JHP on the pistols and smgs? i hate pistols and smgs. i use sniper rifle mostly meh.
 
well, notice i said FMJ, not AP....and im talking about the desert eagle and/or 44 magnum

doh! i get too confused! i usually just carry all the ammo types with my player character so i never have to worry about which ammo is which.

That's because Assault Rifle is not really a rifle, but instead an overpowered long-range SMG. It does more damage that SMG, has higher fire rate, bigger magazine, and to top it off it even has a longer range than that of the Hunting Rifle!

Hunting Rifle's only advantages is that it does more damage per shot and it has a louder boom, and that's it.

Yes bozar is too good. My record is still five kills in one burst. It seems that it can be better at lower skills as at every levels of big guns every bullet seems to hit resulting in "Frank Horrigan was critically hit for 1245 damage and killed".

FMJ is probably better on average as most tough stuff would have armour, but then again you would just blast that stuff with .223 weaponry. Allot of the ammo seems very buggy so I am not even sure what the difference really is between FMJ and JHP in game.

Good point, but I always preferred targeted shots to burst fire. Which would explain why I always end uphoarding vast amounts of ammo in the end-game.

give the bozar a try, it wont disappiont yeh (in FO2 that is, dunno if it's in FOT, never played it)

bozar has but one firemode: 15 round burst of .223 goodies

if you've got 12 APs, bonus rate of fire, maybe even some bonusmoves, you're unstoppable with a bozar

The problems I have with using big guns are the rate they use ammo, the fact that you kill everything, including your NPCs, in the direction you fire in, and the fact that you need to put skill points into another skill.
You get much more efficient use of each shell with targeted shots, and you can just put points into SG.
Mebbe I'm just a miser.
 
Putting skill points in BG is well worth it although gauze rifle does the job fine. Do remember that .223 ammo pretty much rains out of the sky in Fallout 2. Multiple kills are also very satisfying (as long as your NPCs are not in the way).
 
i still havent got an answer to my question, whats better? FMJ or JHP.....

i woulda thought FMJ, but im not sure....
 
You're a modder. You can set up the environment to test them. Why are you wasting your time waiting for someone else to tell you something that you can easily find out for yourself?

You're right about the Bozar, but once you get the Assault Rifle Upgrade and lots of 5mm JHP ammo, I'd use that rather than the Hunting Rifle.

And JHP is better in the 10mm guns, FMJ is better in the Magnum guns, JHP is better in the Assault Rifle.
 
if you are using a rifle, id suggest an FN FAL and scoped hunting rifle combination....
