JHP<>FMJ

Do remember that .223 ammo pretty much rains out of the sky in Fallout 2.[.quote]Yeah, but it's annoying having to carry so much ammo if you are wandering around in an area where the enemies don't ever use .223.
Multiple kills are also very satisfying (as long as your NPCs are not in the way).
They're in the way so often that it makes it pointless.

Personally never bothered with .44 , I usually stick to rifle calibers.
They are good close to the beginning as they are so much better than 10mm. They are also good with a v. high SG skill and the "Better Criticals" perk, as this perk opens up the possibility of instant kills, which the .44 Magnum Revolver seems to have a large chance for. I've taken out small Enclave patrols, on my own, with just a .44 magnum.

In FO1 it's easier to get a shotgun first but in FO2 I think it's easier to get a magnum. Too bad you'll get better weapons soon because I really like the magnum.

That's actually something I dislike, I really like low tech stuff like the scrappy metal armor and the 9mm pistol, high-tech pre-war stuff should be much rarer.

No, it's even easier in FO2. If you leave Arroyo and go to Redding, you'll find a shotgun in sheriff's office. In FO1, you'll have to at least complete Killian's quest before you get a shotgun.

i made a somewhat try out in the FO2 mapper, the FMJ seemed to be more powerfull at armoured targets where the JHP had no effect at all, but at non armoured targets, the JHP's seemed to be better...

Which concurs with how the rounds are used in real life Kahgan. Shooting a person with hollow point bullet will eject large chunks of their meat whereas a full metal jacket bullet won't fragment or expand, it'll punch through the body and exit. Against armor, a hollow point bullet will deform when it hits a rigid target and have a nasty kinetic knock-back but since there is no penetration, it'll just leave a bruise (hematome). Full metal jacket bullets will punch through armor provided the bullet has enough speed and the metal jacket doesn't let it disintegrate when it hits a a rigid target. Here is an example from my bullet collection.

The pointy one is an armor piercing, full metal jacket bullet and the one with the round top and a depression in the center is the hollow point bullet. Those are .357 caliber bullets. Sorry for the image quality, my webcam has a max resolution of 640 * 480.[/img]

The damned hunting rifle is better than the assault rifle.

That's because Assault Rifle is not really a rifle, but instead an overpowered long-range SMG. It does more damage that SMG, has higher fire rate, bigger magazine, and to top it off it even has a longer range than that of the Hunting Rifle!

Hunting Rifle's only advantages is that it does more damage per shot and it has a louder boom, and that's it.
Hunting Rifle is a modified 14mm semi-auto pistol, right?
FMJ & JHP, they are get ready for different conditions.

Here's a rank of Piercing (and consequently, inverse of tissue damage):
1. Armor Piercing (AP)
2. Full Metal Jacket (FMJ or 'ball')
3. Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP)

here's a quick site a found that does (in various sections) explain this:http://www.ammo-oracle.com/body.htm
(if i ever find a better one, i'll tag it on in an edit)

if anyone has more data, a better site that can be simpler (and even more correct if i am wrong); please post it.

i still havent got an answer to my question, whats better? FMJ or JHP.....

i woulda thought FMJ, but im not sure....

I say both, in Fallout 2, using the Bozar and a P90 loaded with the 10mm JHP... you can kill anything in one burst
