I ain't a book person, but my favorite book would be "Green Ice" by Gearld Browne. It's about a man who gives up his office job and seeks a koliday in Mexico, but he gets involves with a pretty girl who is involved in murder and smuggling. It's a good comedy/thriller book.

1. 1984 - George Orwell
2. The Stand - Stephen King
3. Rising Sun - Michael Crieghten
4. Martian Chronicles - Ray Bradbury
5. The Bible

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep
Animal Farm
The Silmarillion
The entire Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series
Fight Club
The Dune series
Ender's Game

1.) The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Series
2.) Dune to Children of Dune
3.) The Lord of the Rings
4.) The two Dirk Gently books

everyone seems to like the hitchhikers guide..... i really didnt think much of it. seemed a little too dumb to be funny, i guess thats just me though.

Well, I could just say "yeah, I like the same books as listed in everybody else's posts", but I won't because a little diversity is in need here.

I recommend the Ann Rice Vampire series. Well written, and will keep you busy for a while!

I'm probably misspelling his name, but the author Carlos Costanada and his Don Juan series is also excellent. No, this isn't the Don Juan of romance fame, but another one.

Ishmael by Daniel Quinn is also excellent. No, make that the best damn book I've read in ages. I won't even give you a hint about what its about, just go and read it already!

i could say the same thing about the Bible (but the sequel is quite god)

I've gone out of the fantasy/sf-loop a long time ago, and I don't have a top list. But some of my favourites (in random order):

Richard Adams - Watership Down
Charles Dickens - A tale of two cities
Charles Dickens - Great Expectations
George Orwell - 1984
Oliver Swift - Gulliver's Travels
FM Dostojewski - the Karamazow Brothers
FM Dostojewski - Guilt and Penance

And more, more, more. Read too much, can't remember half.

The bible 2, its about Jesus returning to earth and starts a rock band.
I don’t think it has been translated to English yet.

ehehe.

I'm not a book person either, but I did enjoy The Hobbit (Tolkien), Momo (michael ende) and The Coat (Nikolaj Gogol). And of course my Donald Duck collectors book.

Frank Herbert - Dune series
Fyodor Dostoevsky - Crime and Punishment & Brothers Karamazov
Pearl Buck - The Good Earth -this one actually made me cry

hmm who else?

I like Michael Crichton, but only on airplanes.

Dragon Lance series: Any of the books by Weiss and Hickman (Chronicles trilogy, Legends Trilogy), and Dan Parkinson (Gates of Thorbardin, Dwarven Nations Trilogy). Also, The Legend of Huma (read that through without stopping).

Anne Rice is good, but after the Queen of the Damned I pretty much quit reading the series, though I do have most of the books.

ElfQuest graphic novels are awesom (Wendy and Richard Pini).

As a teenager I like Dean R. Koontz, but the more I read his books, the less I started to like them (I guess I just got tired of his style, I read about 20 of them).

I do like some stuff by King, but not much. The only books I've read of his are It, Gerald's Game, Carrie, and one other I can't seem to remember... Oh well...

I don't read much anymore. When I do it is mostly religious or political stuff, or Dilbert.

Non-fiction: The Day the Universe Changed - James Burke

Fiction: Dubliners - James Joyce

My favourite books would have to be the following...

Hex, the entire series. These were the first books i ever read.
The hitch hickers guide to the galaxy. Great book.
Star ship troopers. Superb, way better than the film.
Career girls. May sound like a lady's book but i thought it was excellent. Opened my eyes to a whole new load of things.
The hobbit was also a good read.

Well, these are the ones i enjoyed the most.

The best in my library which I can reread time and again is Voltaire's Candide. The translation I had was pretty good and "modernistic" in its literary style. I can't say what the original french is like compared to contemporary books but from what I understand Voltaire was centuries ahead of his time. Very funny dark political satire.

A Clockwork Orange - Anthony Burgess; I remember getting it from the library when I was around 16 and needed my parent's permission to check it out. Great book, much better than the movie and gave me an interest in the russian language.

A Handmaid's Tale - Margaret Atwood; Really good read for a Canadian, feminist writer.

On The Road - Jack Kerouac; What can you say? The man is a legend and the book is an icon.

The Tin Drum - Gunter Grass; Funny as hell story and great satire. Don't be put off by its size it is well worth the read.

Guilty Pleasure = The Doc Savage series by Ken Robeson
