run a find and searh for kernel32.dll on your HD.If it is there in the windows/system folder do (1), if not do (2)

if u have win98se go on start menu > programes > accesories > system tools > msinfo32

(1)

Under one of the drop down menus there will be system file checker run this by pressing start(ignore boxes), this checks you files to see if any are corrupt. If it says kernel32.dll (or other files) are corrupt then choose restore from backup,insert the disk/cd with this file on it (kernel32.dll is on the windows cd) (*)to replace this file type
d:\win98 in the source section and C:\(windows folder)\system.
u will be prompted to back up do so if u wish (if u do you can always replace the new kernel32.dll with the old one if needed), resart you pc. try it now.

(2)

run ms32.dll, click on system file checker from the menu.
DON'T DO AS IN (1)
Instead type kernel32.dll into the box marked restore filefrom specified directory, then similar procedure to (*) above.

{remember if u backup then if this causes problems u can replace this new file with the previous by copying the old over the new in the windows\system directory}

THIS IS ALSO A GOOD WAY TO CHECK OTHER FILES ARE NOT CORRUPTED, IF ANY ARE THEY CAN PROBABLY BE FOUND ON THE WINDOWS CD.
