Philippsburg, Germany (AHN) - Officials at a German nuclear power station have admitted a grave error; officials have gone on the record saying they have lost the keys to top security areas within their own plant.

The Philippsburg nuclear plant in Germany is now under intense scrutiny and investigation following the revelation owners made.

Reportedly they have been searching for the keys to vital areas around the reactors since March 10.

German company EnBW runs the plant and reportedly took an entire week to inform the authorities about the loss of the keys.

Prosecutors have now launched an investigation "against unknown perpetrators" for theft.

The company did however say they would be changing the locks, however German Environment Ministry spokesperson Karl Franz criticized the delay in reporting the case, "We received no explanation as to why it took so long to report the occurrence."

That's why I'm against nuclear powerplants in Poland. See, the Germans were actually looking for the keys :P

Hm. There's a poster contest for the promotion of nuclear facilities in Polandia. 12 000 złotych to win, as well.

Hmm. Hmm.

Too bad the future isnt now. I always thought they would have retical scanners or some other advanced technology for ID in such an important and vulnerable place.

Keys? Just a few days ago I found spare keys at work and turned them in at the office.

Sincerely,

They did change the lock, so they keys would be useless. And anyway nowadays who needs locks when every room is being monitored by security cameras? It would be fun though to see a man steal radioactive materials and he doesn't know the aftereffects heh heh...

I am so reassured by the fact that they have decided to change the locks weeks after they lost the keys! I mean it's not like you should change the locks the moment you realize you lost a set of keys...
what next? a meltdown caused by a plant worker who spilled his coffee all over some essential control panel?
WTF happened to german precision, reliability and responsibility?
compared to this 100 romanians cutting off their genitals in public seems like a mundane event...

What kind of a shitty nuclear power plant has only standard locks protecting top security areas? I thought all such facilities had stuff like forcefields, booby traps and polar bears.

Easter celebration?

Losing the key of your desk is one thing but loosing the keys of security areas of a nuclear power plant is stupid and taking one week to notice the authorities is just plain irresponsibility.

Funny you should mention that, although I can't find that story anymore, which kind of figures since it wasn't in the US. Dumbass walked into a hospital HOT.
