Battle Chess on Kickstarter

Battle Chess is now on Kickstarter. Subdued Software needs your assistance to finish Battle Chess. You can bring this classic back and earn yourself some rewards for helping out. Find out more details by clicking the Kickstarter logo above.

Follow @InterplayGames for the latest official Interplay news.

Hasn't got a chance in hell.

Interplay's name has too many negative connotations, the Battle Chess IP isn't *that* interesting (compared to Descent or EWJ), and they're promising too little for the money they're asking. Not going to happen.

EDIT: here's the link, btw

Yea, $15 for a chess game? And it's not even Lovechess? They'd be better off making it a $5 IOS game and even then who knows how successful that would be.

The original battle chess was awesome. I loved that game, and I was never any good at chess. I used to play games against myself just I could see all the different combinations of fights.

But it's chess. I have a chess set for playing chess. I don't get it.
Can't play against an AI opponent for practice with a physical chess set, or against other people who aren't in the same room with you.

Battle Chess's claim to fame was its animated pieces and depicting piece captures with violent death animations.

But yeah... this would only be interesting to me as a cheap app for a mobile OS. Also, rewards are pretty lackluster.

This is so sad - Interplay attempting a Kickstarter project...the scammers have obviously caught on.

Yeah. The "Interplay" that we know has been dead for centuries already.

Had this one on my amiga i think. The animations were cool to watch once, and the deathscream of the queen fun to listen to twice. As a chess it had a spectacularly stupid AI. Somehow I fail to see a market for something like this. Either you look for a good chess to play and train with, in which case the quality of the AI is the one and only criteria. Or you want to look at some cool animated mutilations, but then some contemporary shooter might be much more fulfilling and entertaining. Perhaps I just don't "get" it *shrug*.

Very true. They didn't win Fallout, so dead to me too. I'd have funded them just for the fun of it had it turned out otherwise.

At least I've found a kickstarter project that involves my childhood that I have absolutely zero interest in spending money on :).

"Further funding will allow us to add more exciting features and extra content. We would also be able to bring Battle Chess to new platforms such as XBox 360, Android, Mac and iOS.

please the old school fans as well as modern gamers.

We cannot guarantee that Battle Chess will be released on Steam.

The original design of the rook did not fit with the rest of the characters stylistically. However, we hope to bring back the original rook design in an expansion pack. "

Fuck that.

Unsurprisingly, Herve remains as clueless about the desires and sensibilities of PC gamers as he was in 2003. With this latest display of his ignorance, we can elevate the following notion to a fundamental axiom of the gaming industry: that any venture involving Herve Caen will without exception end in dismal failure.

Only at $12k of $100k and 15 days to go.

Fail.

That said, judging from the videos and stuff the game may not need a kickstarter and may make it to release regardless.

Yeah, but without multiplayer and not on mobile devices, where it has the highest chance of success. So y'know...

Battle Chess isn't really a good property to push. Who is really looking for advanced graphics in a chess game nowadays? Too many free alternatives.

It seems no one likes French bread anymore.

So the Kickstarter failed, of course, but what I also noticed is that the developer Subdued Software no longer mentions the title anywhere on its website. Nor have we heard anything about it since the KS failed.

'nother Interplay project fell through?

PS: also I never knew the Subdued Software roster boasts a senior software engineer from inXile and the former VP of business development of Interplay. Also that page still mentions Battle chess, but it also mentions it being released in 2012 so I guess it just doesn't get updated anymore.
