Looking for a game...

Lionh34rt

First time out of the vault
Im looking for a game that will interest me and I have found nothing so far. I have played almost everything for PC, the last game that I liked was Mafia. All the new games coming out just keep getting worse and worse. I feel like the game industry is releasing a neverending stream of puke/shit on me.

Lovely imagery.

Well, you have to give us some sense of what you like. One game really isn't that much to go on, is it the setting you like, or the game-play, or the graphics, and so forth.

What is your favorite genre? What other games do you like? What are your favorite games? This information will help extrapolate what games you might like from your previous experiences.

and help us tailor the perfect game choice to your needs!

you make it sound like you're some kind of video game matchmaker! :?

I already went over that entire thread and couldnt find anything that I havent already played or dont like.

Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match.
Find me a find, catch me a catch.
Matchmaker, matchmaker, look through your book
And make me a perfect match.

I can be a bit eccentric in my language, thank you very much.

So, Lion, no other information? From Mafia, I could suggest Grand Theft Auto or Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, for the PC mind you. If it's the setting you really enjoy, there is Gangsters, but that is a strategy game and has a different style.

Grand Theft Auto III has a setting similar to Mafia but GTA: Vice City is by far the better game in terms of music, gamelpay, and general playability. Not being able to shoot people in cars in GTA III REALLY gets on my nerves after having played VC first. - Colt

I actually find alot of the old games more interesting but none of them work on my Windows XP machine. I wish I could play System Shock 2 but it just wont work right on my machine. I also have Grand Theft Auto San Andreas on PS2 and its awesome but I cant play one game for too long. I always play like two or three games at a time.

ask about any compatability problems on the abandonia forums and they will provide as much help as they can (there are even a few fallout fans there :D)

I have an old computer completely devoted to old games (running win98). Also, underdogs has a guide to running old games on xp. You're probably better off using dosbox for games that were made for dos.

Anyone have any troubles with old games on windows 2000?

I didn't have any troubles with Windows 2000 Pro when I had it on my old machine. Running Windows XP Pro now. - Colt

I'd go so far as to say that the best windows OS is win 2000 because of it's stability, security and compatibility. Next time I format my (Currently XP) machine, I’m going win 2000.

I never had problems with 2000 at all. I haven't so far with XP either but I haven't tried to install any of my older games yet, like Fallout. Kind of dreading it. I'd still be running 2000 if it weren't for that install of it being, shall we say, temporary. - Colt

You may want to try this out, if you haven't already:

http://www.timmymagic.com/sshock2/

There's an xp patch on there, but you need to create an account to download it. The patch worked fine for me.

Damn. Someone should have told me about this site 2-3 years ago. Ispent ages trying to find Laura Bow 2 and Police Quest 4. Thanks for the link.

I can tell you that Fallout 1 and 2 both work on XP, but with any game made up until five minutes before XP came out, it's hit or miss. (Black and White and Slave zero both don’t work on my XP machine, and I've also had trouble with Fallout Tactics on XP, and FOT and B&W were released mere months before XP)
