Mapper2 does not load proto items. Please help.

Hello there. It's been a while since my last visit of this community and in general Fallout 2 mood.

I have a terrible problem with mapper. Let me explain. First I know it's a bit hard to set up but however I did and run.

So I wanted to test my new FRM files and new inventory item. Everything work. I start Mapper and Mapper recognize my new inventory item also all other non vanilla Restoration Project items as a well. I open Arroytemple map and put the item on the ground just to pick and test inside the game. After I launch the game the only thing that I saw is black void , empty and only my character running around perfectly fine. I immediately return to mapper to see what I did wrong. So this was it. Now I am unable to see my inventory item in Mapper anymore. I did try everything, reinstall mapper, delete it, move inside the folder of Fallout2 everything. I change few things in mapper.cfg just for testing - NOTHING. Nothing work . whatever I do i only see Vanilla items of the game and that's it. Paths to folder is OK. My item.lst is check. Contain 597 items. (596 in Restoration Project + my new Family Suit item.) everything is set, and illogically - it does not WORK.

Even my F2wedit give me error. For example when I open F2wedit i clearly see all the items from Vanilla, Restoration project & my own item in the list, alas when I click on item that is NOT vanilla F2wedit tell me this "Item can not be extracted from Master.dat" Again - every folder, setting, read only functions are checked and double checked. Nothing seems to work now. Like my Fallout2 folder was suddenly sealed for every possible future modification.

I am extremely frustrated now. I spent ton of time creating frames. I already did it before in the past (put item in mapper in new reno for testing purpose worked just fine) . Now , I cant do that anymore for some ridiculous reason . Please I need help. If someone know how to fix this irritating issue just let me know. Thanks in advance.

All new proto files have to be set as read-only. If you don't do this, then starting Fallout 2 will remove them and the effect you describe is happening. The object text you see is simply the text from the text files, which does not get removed.

Thanks for the replay Lexx. That exactly what happened. After launching fallout 2 , proto items was gone for good. I figured that by a hard way. Needed to reinstall everything. I was amazed to see my proto folder empty in my second check . Why in the world of logic all proto files are deleted after F2 launch??? This is beyond me. But back in the days I don't remember having this kind of problems and frustration. However everything is ok now and I was able to put items in Mapper and save the map with no problems (at least for now) . I will post video of my work very soon in FRM section of the forum. Ok, changed the link. Would feel much better to me to keep it hosted on NMA, though.
