So, what is the best course of action with the Mother?

With my first try, I wiped out all Beastlords in the catacombs except the ones in the "throne room", then released the Mother and fought them. In the course of the battle, the Mother turned against me and I was forced ti kill all the Deathclaws.

I lost a rank and four levels of reputation.

Then, I tried other options. If I free the Mother, I don't gain ranks nor reputations. If I kill her, I lose one reputation level.

Now, the question is, does the Mother always turn against BOS after the fight, or was it just a stray shot ? (I didn't shoot burst, but it might have happened in the real-time fight that I hit her) Which course of action is least detrimental to my character's career path?

PS. Incidentally, the Mother is voiced in the Polish version by a male voice talent. LOL
 
I'm pretty sure it was a fluke as I don't remember her ever turning on me. And IIRC I killed the guys in the throne room first and then released her, I think you get all the good stuff that way.

That's a tough battle in real-time, imo.
I always choose to change to TB mode for that one (yet, only there and for that map where you need to get a nuke and defend ghouls from a mutant atack). I position 5 of my 6 squad members close to the stairs, have the 6th one open Mother's cage and when she runs into the throne room, the battle immediately begins.
You probably hit her or one of her baby deathclaws, it happened to me as well when I tried it in real-time.
I think you can hit her or her babies maximum 2 times before she and her offspring will turn against you.
When you fight that battle in TB, it's easy to avoid stray shots and once you've killed everyone in the throne room, she won't turn against you.
You'll be able to recruit Deathclaws afterwards.
Hint: one of them has the Throwing skill and can actually toss grenades, or even better: boom bugs, to weaken his enemies before shredding them! IIRC Deathclaws can also equip Powerfists and the like.
 
I took the other way into the caves, where you encounter some cockroaches and stuff. I think I pretty much killed all the baby deathclaws, and then all the Beastlords. After that I freed the Mother and she just stayed friendly. Haven't checked yet whether I can recruit Deathies. In the briefing it said so.
 
as much as DC's are great for nade tossing and beating the crap out of most living organisms, they are vulnerable in later levels especially when against Super Mutants. Mother is cool though but the other DCs aren't worth it.

One good thing about DC's is that their hp is so zany that they make great meatshields. Energy weapons in the late game which are optimized for killing well armored stuff deal less damage to DC when compared to a big bad minigun on burst mode, so im was never worried about shoving mother into the fray.

The first time I played that mission I just freed the Mother without going through the Throne Room first, and there she got killed on her own. Don't remember if I had a rep drop. I also accidentally killed Diesoon caus he got caught in the crossfire, so after that I had a bad rep and didn't care about it anymore. I even killed all the energizer bunnies in that special encounter.

Hypodermic needles.

IIRC one of the trade SE has about 5 of those lethal poisons. That is more than enough to kill even 500 hp Deathclaws.

You're meant to rescue her, so you shouldn't be trying to kill her. I find it best to release her and then wait for the beastlords to wipe out most of her babies before joining in the fray, less likely to catch one with friendly fire.
 
All battles I fought the first time I fought in real time... pretty cool and tough too...

The first time I played, we blitzed the beastlords and over took the Beast lord Emperor. He got a six man firing squad and the fuck went down for the count. After most of the fighting, we pretty much didn't find the death claw mom till all the blood letting. She just ran out and didn't attack me.


Now the second time I played the game, i did a lot more co-ordinating. I sent men through each possible entrance. One got to the queen, while another group came through the death claw pit and we basically corned ol' Emperor.

Love tactics for that.

But to the point, Death Claw mom never turned on me.
