Microseconds of an Atomic Blast (Photos)

It looks like something organic, like a cyste or a tumor or something.

Not really nice. I don't like to think of mushroom clouds as something organic. They should be ethereal.

those were made with Edgerton's "Rapatronic" camera. The shutter system is basically a spinning prism... spinning really fucking fast. There are a couple interesting books about his world you can check out at pretty much any library. He invented the strobe light, and high-speed strobe photography, not to mention all sorts of other nifty stuff.

The objects on the ground in the third picture remind me of people screaming and thrashing.

D'oh! Quite interesting how the enormous heat of the fission first plasmarises (does this word even exist?) the surrounding air and then solid objects.
All those nice looking things we all know, I mean that cute fireball and the mushroom cloud are caused by that plasma touching the ground an dust sucked into the sky by the expanding and collapsing air...
Those things we all know are just side effects of the actual reaction on the nuclear level...
The whole destruction and the horror visions caused by that weapons are not even the actual and/or initial effect...
...
Nah, please shot me, I'm getting philosophical again.

Love those pictures.

The second picture looks like a tiny sun, with the little flares coming off it and everything. Cute!

Sweet. A marvelous picture of destruction. It looks like the birth of the sun. Purging all evil from earth.

The heavens declare the glory of the Bomb, and the firmamment sheweth His handiwork

Amen!!!
