Tempistfury: So when was the last time you have met a 16 year-old with their head straight on their shoulders? As a majority sample?
Myself at 16, and practically my entire extended circle of friends. Granted, My community as a whole seems to be ab exception in the US, but I do believe that at 16 you are intelligent enough to look at both sides of a suituation.

Seriously, that high-school drama mentality would only lead to more physical conflicts and problems in boot camp training.
This is a really good point, but some how i doubt a 16yearold can take a seasoned drill sergeant. After a beat down or two from the sergeant, problem solved more or less.

So, should the schools block out those who would use fraudulent contracts that the advertising party will not honor their obligation in, for putting [the youth's] life at risk for an illegal contract, and the fact that the military wipes its ass on the Bill of Rights for the Feds again?
In that case, yes. There's a difference between the nationalistic show and simply telling straight lies. Miltary figures are heralded as honorable etc. But most 16 yearolds *should* be attentive and know this isn't the case. :: shrug :: Bringing up the point that alot of 16 yearolds are ignorant and stupid aside from their ability to be otherwise, i'm going to retract my earlier statement and re-think it.

The individual uses himself as the measuring stick of humanity.

Intelligence and wisdom are very different. While you may be able to make a smart decision, that doesn't necessarily make it the right one.

If 16 year olds were trusted to make proper decisions about themselves then the age of consent wouldn't be set at 18.

the whole heroism crap catches on rather well at that age.

childhood traumas may help as well  hell, if you're already fucked up what more could they do to you?
Besides the father figure and the nature of the upbringing counts a lot! If you are used to a tyrannical father who beats you up for the slightest mistake you could get used to the drill sarge more easily or identify him with the father and cut his throat when he is sleeping
Besides if the president is so eager to wipe out terrorism and tyranny why doesn't he take up a gun and go fight them himself, Quake style? :D
