Empire Online reports that way back in the time of the ancients (ie. the late 90's), those very outgoing & macho brothers Larry and Andy Wachowski were keen on adapting Alan Moore's graphic novel "V for Vendetta," but pushed it aside in favour of some little indie project shot in Australia about some "Matrix" thingy starring a guy who played Ted Theodore Logan, a former professor of "Higher Learning", and an ex-"Models Inc." actress.

Years on, that first "Matrix" movie's first assistant director James McTeigue, is in final negotiations with Warner Bros. to make his directorial debut on an adaptation of the property which the Wachowskis and Joel Silver will also produce. McTeigue recently wrapped duties as first AD on "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith," and it's expected the two brothers will have a big hand in helping him out on this project.

The dark graphic novel is set in an alternate future in which Germany wins WWII and Great Britain becomes a fascist state. A terrorist freedom fighter known only as "V" begins a violent guerilla campaign to destroy those who've succumbed to totalitarianism, and recruits a young woman he's rescued from the secret police to join him.

Where it will shoot remains a big question, the likeliest choice would be Australia but with the likes of "Ghost Rider" & "Superman" locked in whilst the "Pirates of the Caribbean" sequels and "Logan's Run" also being tipped to film, next year it seems is quickly running out of studio space in Oz.

Sounds like a cool premise, hopefully the W brothers will have a better go as with The Matrix, rathern the Reloaded or Revolutions.

Awesome KOC, I had no idea anyone was thinking of making this. :D
I'll be keeping my eye on this one.

Alternate histories turn me on...

Although this was not an impossible scenario. I mean the one with a fascist UK...

Great news indeed, my liege.

Oh, and are they remaking Logan's run? Who's starring? ;)

Yay, I like post-apocalyptic stuff. Day of the Triffid's style. If they want any credibility.
