More on UFO2000, Pocket UFO and Project Xenocide

Slaughter

It Wandered In From the Wastes
UFO2000 - X-COM multiplayer:
Multiplayer is something many a X-COM fan wished for when the game was first released. The UFO2000 team took it upon them to provide what the developers didn't, and everyone is encouraged to check it out! You can find the official site here.

Project Xenocide still going strong:
Near the end of 2002 a group of dedicated fans started a project to recreate the feel and spirit of X-COM. It's been a long bumpy road, but the project is still going strong. You can find the official site here.

Pocket UFO for Pocket PC and PC:
Did you know that you can play X-COM on your Pocket PC? No? Time to explore then! Pocket UFO is a remake of X-COM: UFO Defense (UFO: Enemy Unknown) that you can download for free. And in case you're not the lucky owner of a Pocket PC, you can play it on the PC as well! Read more about it at the official site.

Even more X-COM related projects?
Sure thing! There are several other excellent projects in development, and you can find a nice list made by Zombie at StrategyCore.co.uk

UFO2000 is a bit.. screwy. I used to play it a while back. Finding someone to play against isn't usually difficult, even if there are rarely more than half a dozen people on the server, but it just doesn't feel right on some level.

Great that they managed to get it working though, and if you can put up with it it's certainly better than a poke in the eye.

I've not checked up on Xenocide for months, that's always looked a promising project though.

I've only just realised you're from StartegyCore, what a coincidence... I see one or two of your guys on TTLG forums too.
Do you know what ever happened to those Russian guys who were making an XCOM inspired game? I forget where their site was but it looked pretty impressive.

Is it UFO 2007 you're thinking of? Haven't heard from the guys making it in a while, so I don't really know what the status is. Or did you think of another project?

As for TTLG, I know a few of the StrategyCore guys go there as you say. Can't remember who at the moment though.

That artwork looks kind of familiar, especially the Minigun guys and the big alien craft.

Could be the same project, though I remember their website being very dark; mostly dark blues and black.

Maybe you're thinking about this? http://www.ufo-extraterrestrials.com/
Yeah, that might be. It will be a commercial release however. I should have some more information on the project soon, as we're doing an interview with them at the moment.

Thanks for the heads up Slaughter
You're welcome :). I thought it was time to promote the projects a little again, to let people know that X-COM lives. One day we will have "X-COM: Resurrection" if it is the last thing I do! In fact, I've spoken to both Nival and Julian Gollop about it, and they are both interested...

Nope, but I love how many independant XCOM projects there are around.

It's sad to see that UFO-2007 has apparently come to a halt: http://dimitry-andreev.narod.ru/Sublevel/eindex.htm
The models they had looked so very promising.

You know. Judging by the 'Russian-ness' I reckon that was probably the one all along. I went to the SC forums since that was where I first heard of it and it seemed familiar.

It was originally at this url, which is no longer working.
