More Van Buren Info Comes Out

Dear Huggies, Puuk and Kumquat3 continue to offer snibblets of Van Buren NPC's and locations:
Fort Abandon:
a rundown NCR fort and a central location in the game. The railway has a crossroads here, and if the player so chooses, he can slowly upgrade the fort into a center of prosperity.

Jericho:
Formerly the Jericho Desalination Plant of New Canaan, Jericho is all that is left of the Mormon city. The town's prosperity revolves around the fresh water the still-working plant produces. However, the plant is old and inefficient, and Jericho is a long way from being the economic powerhouse it wants to be.
And there's more where that came from. And the replacement for Dogmeat:
Nope, not mechanical. It was a Rottweiler which was exposed to "something" that made it a little bigger, a little tougher, and a little meaner than the average rotty-rot (I love Rottweilers, btw). You had to do a few things before the dog would befriend you, though. Also, we wanted to make a dog companion that would be a great fighting ally as well.
Good stuff!!!

Well, it all sounds good and even great on paper (or on screen), but what would the actual game and gameplay have offered? Plans, concepts and so on often sound truly amazing, until you see the finished product. I'm thinking about all those it's-going-to-be-so-addictive-and-new-and-original-but-we-still-need-to-make-it-Fallout-mods.

It could give Bethesda some ideas, though. Agreed. But working with other people's ideas isn't the best way to go, methinks. If Bethesda wants to make a swell game, they should start from scratch and forget all about Van Buren. My twelve and a half cents.

No, dont froget.

They should keep it in mind but make what theyre going to make.

Also, they need to remember that they dont need to 'impove' things like the look of the gane.

Dont do like POS and Craptics and have things look nothing like the game.

i think no matter if they will "borow" the ideas or create theyre own the fallout game shoud stay true to its looks and fallout bible.
(And of course make fallout only on PC ja like that woud ever hapen)

Alec, Fan Made Fallout doesn't fall into that category. We have purposely chosen not to make a big deal about ourselves, for a number of reasons (foremost being we are aware of our chances of completion). Netherless, we haven't made any claims about our mod being "addictive."

Who said I was referring to the Fan Made Fallout project?
Did you read that in my post? Tell me where then...

The more I read these the more I start to doubt how well Bethesda's interpretation of Fallout will turn out..

So are all of the Van Buren team already in new jobs or is there even a slightest possibility that some of them would end up with Bethesda to work on F3?

Unfortunately, that's going under the premise that Beth would:

1) Hire staff to work on their FO.
2) Would adopt ideas from Van Buren.
3) That former BIS staff would want to work for Beth, which I believe is in Maryland. Leaving friends/family to haul across the country to work on a game. Doubtful.

I think those who are "core" to FO have already gotten jobs/careers, so I'm pretty doubtful.

There's another way of looking at it, though. Very few of the core guys who were working on VB were core guys who worked on FO and FO2. The point being that you don't have to be hanging around the Interplay offices in order to have great Fallouty inspiration.

I shall miss the input from a lot of the VB guys. Not least from JES. But the fact that they won't be involved in Bethesda's project doesn't prove that it will suck. Jeez, I saw enough respected FO heads claim that the VB team would have produced a crap FO3 at the time Iplay were still backing it. And now this.

It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings.

Using planks, they loaded the woman on to the trailer, still attached to the couch. Removing her would be too painful, since her body is grafted to the fabric. After years of staying put, her skin has literally become one with the sofa and it must be surgically removed.

She became one with the sofa in her lifetime. Quite impressive. On topic, I still want fallout 3. :)

Fan made Fallout is probably the only mod I have respect for, probably due to the fact that you haven’t been to optimistic and noobish throughout your project. At least it’s nice to see one mod group out there that doesn’t fall victim to amateurism.
