Mouse lag in Fallout 1 and 2

First time out of the vault
I have physical copies of Fallout 1 and 2. I also bought them on Steam a few years back during a sale. I have tried both versions and they all have the same problem with the mouse lagging in game or just not working right. It's hard to move the mouse cursor in game. Even more so in menus.

I am using a Corsair wireless gaming mouse. I hooked my wired version of the mouse up to my PC and had the same problems. They are both Corsair Harpoons just one is wireless. I was playing Fallout 1 just a few days ago and had no issues. Other than the mouse movement being slow in the character creation screen it worked fine in the rest of the game. It wasn't the same kind of lag either. It was just a bit slow. But it worked fine in the rest of the game.

I might try a generic mouse or something.

If anyone has had this issue and knows how they fixed it I would love to know.

So I found a fix for my issues. At least kind of. To fix the mouse not working right in the game I went into the Corsair iCUE settings and unchecked the box for enhance pointer precision. This also effects the mouse settings in Windows 10 so they are connected. If you are using a regular mouse and not a gaming mouse you can turn the enhanced pointer precision off as well. Just go to the Windows 10 search bar near the start button on the lower left of your screen (the one with the windows symbol on it) and type in mouse settings. Then click on what pops up. Click on additional mouse settings and in mouse properties go to pointer options. You will see it. By disabling that fixed the issues I was having with the mouse in game. Which I was not having a week or so ago. I don't know what changed.

To fix the actual mouse lag and not the issue I was experiencing you can try this. I only ever experienced the mouse lag in the character creation screen. The rest of the game was fine. Just the mouse was really slow in the character creation screen.

I tried to get it to work for Fallout 2 but I couldn't find the debugging section in SFall. I am using the Steam version of Fallout 2 and Killaps patch but not my retail dual plastic case copy. Since I had these issues with both versions of the game. You will have to disable enhanced pointer precision if you encounter the mouse problems I was having. The issue was also in Fallout 2. But if you follow this guide, you should be able to fix the mouse lag issue if you use the same version of SFall he did.

One thing I found that seemed to fix the mouse lag issue in the character creation screen is using the FALOUT2.EXE in the Steam Fallout 2 install location. You don't need to use the fallout2HR.exe to start the game and use the high resolution. But Steam will start the game using the other .exe file which will cause the lag. So you can either put this on your desktop (maybe) or you have to go to the Steam install location if you don't want the mouse lag.
