Music

First time out of the vault
Ok, since I think the main success of fallout 1 and 2 was music I was wondering who will make music for the fallout3? Are there any informations about this? In my opinion it should be again Mark Morgan who has already made a great music for the F1 and 2 and to who whole black isle should be thankful. What are your opinions about that?

Well the intro music was successful, but I wouldn't consider the rest of the music in FO to be great. I found the ambient music in gecko to be annoying. Of all of the things that made fallout successful, I'd say music is towards the bottom of the list.

The intro music for FO3 will be one of the most important decisions of the game. For the in-game music, I'm guess higher-quality remakes of all the classic Fallout in-game music plus a few new tracks.

I don't think Bethsoft has rights to previous versions of FO, so this wouldn't happen.

I wonder if Bethesda have even considered music yet, seeing as they've not really started the game really. The ambient music was good mostly, I hope they do try to hire Mark Morgan for it and not try to go off in the direction that BOS went. I would not like to play a Metal/Rap/Dance filled Fallout game.

True. I've tryed to play fallout with other music than it's in the game or with no music at all and I must say it wasn't really playable :<.

I agree that the music in fallout had a great deal to do with it's succes. Allthough not on the top of the list, I've not played any games with better music or music more fitting for the game.

The intro music always ruled. Even t4ctic5 had that. It would be a shame to lose that intro music.

I don't know: I didn't particularly care much for the music in either Fallout. The intro music fit well with the games, but the rest of the music fell into the background and was nonremarkable in any way. It would be nice if there were more high-energy pieces instead of all of the quiet, howling wind that really just became background noise.
Fallout 2's music was MARGINALLY better than Fallout 1, though the difference is negligible.

Except that it used exactly the same songs. Oh yes. There were two or three new ones.

And no, the mellow, "howling" music added to the lonely, desolated feeling. No Rap/Metal/Folk/Techno mix would give that feeling.

I hope they do retakes on some of the old Music or get the Mark Morgan to do some new tunes.

My fav tunes must have been the one for the Glow, The Followers and the Boneyard...

But who knows, they may actually surprise us.

Is that why all of my favorite Fallout songs are in Fallout 2 (and not Fallout 1)? There's Modoc's theme, the World Map (both with car and without the car), and Redding's theme.

Honestly, both kinds of background music can be used. One for towns, one for desolate locations. They both do the job they were intended to.

One makes the setting feel a bit empty and barren, while the other paints character or that certain location. I do wonder what kind of music would accompany the BoS. Sadly, while I do have talents as a musician, I don't have much talent as a composer.

As for the intro theme, something suitable towards the Fallout RPGs, of course. Something poignantly ironic to Fallout's history, but within the same time setting and music style.

i was thinkin' of a situation-related soundtrack. nothing changes to the original soundtrack, but in battle you'll get metal... or something aggressive(NO RAP-CR*P) in my opinion it would fit better with the game. and also a rusty ol' cd-player in the pub's with changeble music, ranging from anything you want. if you don't want the battle-metal-music, turn it off in the options

Go back to Counter-Strike or educate yourself about the design of the Fallout games before you assume that F:POS was the pinnacle of the design.

CD-player?! Moron.

For an intro, I think "Twilight Time" by The Platters would be perfect. It'd actually do justice to the previous Fallout games, unlike Tactics, which had some B.B. King nonsense that didn't fit with Fallout at all.

What about Tom Waits - Earth died screamin' as the intro?
It's not his best song, but at least the title would fit the game perfect :D

BTW: The intro music for Fallout Tactics (the blues-thingy) is great! Anybody know of similar music they would recommend?

I'd like to a see a few instances of '50s retrospective music, similar to the introductory themes from Fallout 1 & 2. That'd be a nice touch.
