Music

I'd like to a see a few instances of '50s retrospective music, similar to the introductory themes from Fallout 1 & 2. That'd be a nice touch.

You hit on exactly what is needed............'50s retrospective music

I think something like the "Dead Cities" album from Future Sound of London would be interesting as a background music for the new Fallout. It's got lots of tracks that would fit well in the ambient plus a couple of harsh ones like "We have explosives"

I think they should use "Like A Virgin" from Madonna or that shit from The Bangles, what was it it? "Walking like an Egyptian" or something...

-- alec, just finished a bottle of William Lawson's, finest blended Scotch Whisky, although he prefers single malt

Pssht. Everybody knows Fallout 3 will have a Japanese Happy Jabber Techno track as theme.

No, see, the opening song has to be The Mission from Queensrÿche's Operation Mindcrime album or God will call down Hell upon all of you sinners.

Anyone who wants to hear it, PM me. - Colt

I like Bukakke should play during the intro AND credits. That's all I ask.

What about a Happy Jabber Techno remix of it instead?

Or "Badgerbadgerbadger"!? I want the badger song as background music for the entire game!

Good Idea, or Lustmord and R. Rich - Stalker.

For sure it has to be ambient music, it's only music that really fits to post-nuclear world.

And in the intro it should be some retro jazz music

i was thinkin' of a situation-related soundtrack. nothing changes to the original soundtrack, but in battle you'll get metal... or something aggressive(NO RAP-CR*P) in my opinion it would fit better with the game. and also a rusty ol' cd-player in the pub's with changeble music, ranging from anything you want. if you don't want the battle-metal-music, turn it off in the options
I don't think there is anything more annoying than in-game music suddenly jumping over to a upbeat combat theme, especially after the first 5 times you've heard it. Ultima Online almost made me gnaw my keyboard to plastic shreds because of battle music.

Heh. Combat music is annoying rather than supportive. It feels even more wrong in TB games.

I hate it when you get attacked by a rat and suddenly the music turns into something remotely similar to what you hear in Matrix' action scenes. You kinda expect that rodent to whip out an Uzi and fire a rain of bullets at you as you run across walls in slow motion only to jump at the varmint and break its neck with a Kung-Foo (sic) kick.

Freakin disturbing, I tell ya.

I liked the ambient sounds & music in Fallout1 a great deal. It suggested desolation and expansiveness during one's travels through the wastes. I have dozens of albums of weird music like that lying around. Here's one tune that sounds falloutish to me that some of you might like:

Valley of a Thousand Thoughts

Who said BB King didn't fit in Tactics? I thought it worked well and was a fairly logical follow up to Louis Armstrong. Ok i happen to like BB King, i saw him and his band play live once, it was awsome.
Out of all the intro's though Louis Armstrong was the best by far...what a cool track!
I think Fallout 3 should stick to the 50's vibe with music and any other music should not be recognisable as anything we've actually heard or heard of...it would ruin the continuity of the story.

ps- this spellcheck thingy cant spell

Hi to all and here is what i think about the music in F3, if you care.
I have to say that if there were a post apoc genre in music then F1/2 music would sound just like I'd imagine it.
Someone on this forum pointed out that the music in Fallout was almost entirely Aphex Twin ripoff (look for "Fallout Music" thread). I am familiar with Aphex Twin and I have to say that it seems like some scores were taken directly from Aphex Twin CDs without any changes. I would not be surprized if all Fallout music was Aphex Twin, it very well may be. I think that F3 should also go with AT. The music will have the same sound and feel, and featuring Twin's music will help market the game since a lot of people in Europe know AT.

Hmm, wanting to check it out, I located the Aphex Twin website, but had problems downloading the mp3's available there. I will try later, as I am in to that sort of music. Fallout 1 & 2 were both very good musically/sound wise... in F2 I especially liked the car music when you switched to the car travel screen. A memorable moment in F1 was ascending the Cathedral and hearing a weird sort of discordant bell sound somewhere off in the distance. That portion of the game is great.

I found the music in Fallout: Tactics to be disappointing in that it was too busy and cacophonous(sounds you got tired of listening to), rather than minimalist like the tracks in F1/2.

That's bullshit. I have a humongous collection of Aphex Twin and never in my life have I ever thought: "WTF!? That sounds just like this or that theme from Fallout!" Some of his ambient work might have the same atmosphere to it, but it never even comes close. Plus, Aphex Twxin has evolved quite a bit over time. You can't possibly label him "ambient" anymore. Aphex Twin is Aphex Twin. There's nothing that even comes close to him.

Yeah, right. Let's use "Come to Daddy" for the intro. That'll be cool.

I think the intro theme could do well with: "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"?

As for theme music...well it really depends on the situation. I don't see how Aphex Twin would fit Fallout, except maybe 'Gwely Mernans', 'Hexagon', or 'Popcorn'. If I had to choose, I would say the first of the three.

No bullshit. Check out this thread for proof http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9511&highlight=aphex+twin

I've been listening to "Selected Ambient Works Volume II" all morning now and nowhere do I get the feeling that Dixie_Rebel had. "Windowsill" comes kinda sorta close, I have to admit that, but still, to me it's an entirely different sound. It's kinda sorta easy to say stuff like: "Hey, you know that Beatles song, Strawberry Fields Forever? Well, if you get rid of the guitar, add a piano jingle and heck, maybe some extra violin sounds in the background, it kinda sorta starts to sound like the theme music from The Abyss! Isn't that friggin' awesome!"

Nope.

It's stupid for another reason: wind will generally always sound like wind, fog horns like fog horns and so on. That being the case, the music from the world map kinda sorta sounds exactly the same as what one can hear whilst lying on the beach in Ostend at three or four o'clock in the morning with a hangover and wet pants. Just get rid of the annoying seagulls and replace them by the subtile sound that is produced by tumbleweed that's passing by.

Anyway, you should never believe what Dixie_Rebel says. Everyone around here knows he's a pothead. Things tend to get contorted when one smokes 20 reefers a day. :look:
