After years of toil, Mutants Rising is at the point where they're releasing a demo of their major Fallout conversion mod:<blockquote>Smart Installer
The smart installer will install the mod for you along with the FO2 patcher and a separate config file for MR, this will allow you to play Mutants Rising without effecting your existing FO2 install (though the installer will automatically remove the patch000.dat file). The FO2 patcher only supports the US and UK versions of Fallout so I don't know what will happen for the rest of you.

Data Folder
The is nothing but the raw data folder. If the Smart Installer does not work then just extract this into your Fallout2 folder like any other mod.

Err also you might want to excuse the dodgy voice overs for the movies, I haven't got around to redoing them with Demostrikes recordings so they are currently my placeholder recordings</blockquote>Link: brand new Mutants Rising forum on NMA.

Simply astounding. Out of all this news about Fallout 3 that makes me ill, something comes along to invigorate me about the Fallout series.
This is turning out truely amazing. A huge fucking CHEEEEERRSSSS!! and KUDOS!!!!!

I am thoroughly impressed.

Ehm, this post might sound dumb... but how do I actually play that game? Whenever I start the game throught the new .exe i find myself in the completely normal Game, starting a new game just sets me off in front of the temple too...

Check in the Fallout2 folder there should be a file called MutRis.exe, this uses the fallout patcher to point directly at a new config file called mrconfig.cfg (it would normally point to fallout2.cfg).

The installer will copy your existing fallout2.cfg to the fallout dirtory and name the file mrconfig.cfg

Code:
critter_dat=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\mrdata
critter_patches=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\mrdata

Just make sure the file called mrconfig.cfg is in the folder, also make sure that the folder you installt the mod to is in fact the folder where you have fallout2 installed.

Hey guys - I can't get the game working with the installer - I can't download the data folder this minute (gotta wait the 33 minutes for Rapidshare to allow me the next attempt) - so I'm asking perhaps you can help.

When I run the installation everythings OK. But when i press the MR icon then I get the following error message: 'Couldn't find/load text fonts'

what's up ?

EDIT: OK, got it to work fine. I fumbled with the installation. BUT. The game crashes after the intro video when I've started a new game.
Perhaps I'll be able to fix it. Until then...

EDIT part deux: okely-dokely - got it to work. a pity I haven't the time to play it just yet. I'll get back to you ;)

Well, they've finally done the demo... after I lost faith and me and half the team left... Well done guys! I'm going to love seeing how this has ended up... I imagine it'll be very different from last time I played it... I hope the cool villager scripts are still working!

Wow, great demo! And I can't wait until we see Mutants Rising to full glory!

PS: Why's Dayglow is so near Elko?! It's far, far away, from what I know. Right?

Well.. the smart installer won't work on my pc, and not only because I hate rapidshare... but now I have to wait about 40 Minutes to download the raw files. This isn't cool. x_X
