my crappy monitor makes it hard to see anything

slackerninja

First time out of the vault
do any of you know of a program that i can download that will sort of force my monitor into higher brightness and contrast. it'd be nice to see things in the underground levels, without having to cheat and blast up 20 levels of night vision.
i'm just pissed that fallout3, when its available, will be too much for my old system to handle.
of course, by then, we'll probably be using implants and nanotechnology instead of beat up old towers.

I actually had the exact same problem in a topic I named Gamma Problem.
find a program named powerstrip and itll solve your problem :)

Correct, but some monitors have very poor brightness. I would assume that either Slackerninja or Snake has already tried the brightnesss controls on their monitor and Fallout and it is still a problem.
You could try helping sometimes, not all "This won't work" threads are from idiots who can't work out their hardware/software controls.

I solved my problem by buying a new screen, but before I did that I tried the powerstrip program and it worked like a charm.

He didn't say if he had tried it. So I am not helping him by saying that? This thread is not titled "This won't work" and I doubt he is an idiot. I'm starting to think that you are the idiot.

Come on guys, cut it out. The guy has the answers he needs, no need to fight over it (or you two can work it out in PMs).

I dont understand why every new topic on this forum turns into a flame war. Seems to me you have a problem needing dealt with, but instead of actually dealing with it you let your anger out on this forum and start insulting people for no reason other than how you yourself feel.

Dim the lights in your working room and make sure no sunlight can fall upon your screen. Close the blinds. Draw the curtains. And do take off your friggin' sunglasses whilst playing Fallout, because that's just asking for trouble.

If all of that fails, open up your monitor and put a flashlight or a lighted candle on the inside. Might want to try a flashlight first, because the candle-thing is quite a complex operation which involves aerodynamics, arithmetics, l33t programming skillz and that certain "je ne sais quoi" which only the French and the Flemish seem to posses.

If even that does not work: DL the program Snake recommended.

Or you could do that last thing first. Just to be sure you don't mess up.

So I just let him insult me for no reason?
