My problem with NV

The explorer trait is really useful on your first time through the game if you want to find as many people, places and things as possible without using a guide. Obviously talking to people as much as possible helps too.
 
It's only useful if you don't want to explore on your own anymore and grew a bit tired of it, imo. If you can see all location spots on the worldmap, a lot of the surprise get's lost (in Fo3 and FNV).
 
The explorer perk is one of the ones I've never taken and never saw in the point in taking either. Different styles I guess but to me the map isn't so big you need it.
