Mystary USB (Singularity)

It Wandered In From the Wastes
Apparently several game retailers were sent un-marked USB drives that played a cryptic audio file with some kind of code on it and a weird message. The packages came from Maryland (Bethesda?) and the contents of the message are about Uranium isotopes and other post-apocalypticy things. Here's the link to IGN's story on it:

It might not be related to Fallout: New Vegas, or it may very well be. I figure some of the minds here might be better suited to crack the code than the geniuses over at wishy-washy IGN.

Sorry if this is too off topic.

Reminds me somehow more of Deus Ex (3). But then again... Chris or Josh have been talking about New Vegas showing kind of "rebirth" of civilisation, if I remember correct.

/Edit: The website reminds me now a lot of the old Fallout 3 teaser website.

Yeah that's what I thought too. It's almost as if Bethesda said "Alright, we did this teaser website for F3, so you should do the same thing." and then Obsidian said "Well, fine, but we're going to do it in our own, much more badass way."

Although this is all purely speculation and possibly not related to Fallout at all.

Split to general gaming until we know it's related to Fallout at all.

New Vegas ARG?

As IGN and Joystiq report, a set of odd USB pendrives was sent to select gaming outlets. With no return addresses, cryptic MP3 audio and mysterious text, it's a pretty strong indication it's an alternate reality game for... something.

It's not clear what they are for, what's the meaning of the website it points to, but it might be an interesting thing to follow. So far, the deadline is "second week of April". Let's wait and see.

Link: ARG, we can't believe we wasted time on that on Joystiq

Interesting... I like how the stamp features a man who shares a name from somebody in the Fallout universe.

Nice spot !
Especially since it's a character from New Reno

Someone found out the site is related to Activision, and a few CoD fansites got a USB as well. God damnit, I hope this isn't Call of Duty: Fallout.

It's obviously Deus Ex. And I'm fucking stoked.

Knowing the departments that Ubisoft montreal has, and it's staffs fascination with cryptologics, it reeks of it.

Philanthropy, that key word gave it away.

I liked the "teaser" if it can be called that.

But fuck me if it's something Fallout related that Infinity Ward is involved in. I don't think it's a stretch that Bethesda would loan the license so to speak (like with New Vegas) and have Infinity Ward create some sort of cinematic FPS set during the Fallout apocalypse.

I guess we'll see soon what it means at any rate.

seems more likely that it's CoD7. the site is registered on Google Analytics by Activision.

Interesting. Still it fits the whole lost package theme. Don't you think?
Oh, and the display seems a bit oldschool. Let's have a closer look at the images we can see here....

I'm pretty sure I saw J.F. Kennedy, a baseball turning into Earth, Uranium... and some strange goggles and a rocket, or a bomb.

Someone woke up one day and went "Hey, let's make a Doom, only in cold war Russia and with time warping powers. Kind of like Bioshock only less talking and more combat. Or like a Call of Duty in Russia. Or like Metro 2033 with time travel. God, I'm such an ingenious bastard! This will be the next big thing!"

Basically it's a russian run and gun bioshock, only retarded. Notice how the player can take a whole ammo dump to the chest and happily stand in the middle of the battlefield. The controls seem to be pretty horrible as well, notice how you can't really aim at anything father than 10 meters away.

I think I'll go play an FPS that requires some skill, like 2142.
