Seriously now, I hear that Napster is alive from the dead, but it's going to be charging for service now.

Anybody up to date on this situation?

Yeah It went back up not too long ago, I really don't see why anybody would actually pay for that shit, especially when there still a bunch of other free p2p programs out there.

Damn...Napster used to be so good. These new p2p services are much more advanced, but I don't think any of them have as many users as Napster did in its golden days. This Napster 2.0 has nothing to do with good old Napster.

I've still got the orginal Napster on my computer back in Wisconsin... Too bad it never made it past the beta stage.

[rant] Sorry if this is off-topic, but I needed to say it. Please give a warning before posting pictures such as the crucifix in this topic or the ruined gums in the snus one. I'm not offended by nudity though I agree with the rules layed out by the admins, but could something be done for violence? Thank you. [/rant]

You can find a picture of Christ being crucified in a Bible and you'll see that tobacco warning taking up about 40% of the packaging on any pack of Canadian cigarettes. Neither one of them is violence anyways.

But I think I see what you mean though. I didn't think that they were offensive when I posted them and I still don't, but I will take other posters into consideration from now on.

What exactly do you think are the criteria and limits for posting images? Please be specific as I'm not able to fit the two examples you mentioned into the "violence" category.

This might require a bit of thinking about, but mostly what I don't want to stumble upon when I'm browsing a forum is people in obvious pain, blood, wounds (open or healed), un-attached body parts, and dead bodies. I can't think of anything else for the moment, but I hope you catch my meaning.
I don't mind written descriptions of violence like the ones in the Kilrick Salvage RPG (I write some of them, anyway  ), though I almost put down the Hannibal novel.
As for the crucifix, I was scared stiff at the age of five when one of the teachers/staff at school decided that for our religious education we should watch a movie about the life of Jesus, including the crucifixion in graphic detail. To this day I have trouble not freezing in fear or backing off when I see one, be it in sculpture or painting. But that's just me.

YOu want to see bloody crucifixes go south of the border. There were some pretty bloody Christ images in Brazil when I was there.

I think snuff pictres and other pictures which obviously hail from rotten.com are pretty much against the rules, but nobody is posting them.

I see no serious reason to be against crucifixes and the like. Same goes for anti-tobacco stuff.

See, that's exactly (well, that and a couple of other reasons) why I hate Religion classes, why I didn't take Religion in High School and why I'm strongly opposed to the fact that Religion is now an obligatory subject for all elementary school kids in Croatia, even those that are not catholic! I remember that my Religion teacher from 6th to 8th grade of elementary school used to tell us how Jews are evil people who killed Jesus and how they deserved their horrible fate in World War II. She also told us how Inquisition was a good organization that protected good people from evil enemies of God, enemies that threatened to pollute minds of masses with their devious doctrines, enemies like Galileo Galilei! Don't ask how a person who justifies deaths of millions of people and claims they deserved it as a punishment for something that (supposedly!) happened 2000 years ago can even be allowed to work with children - that kind of thing can only happen in Croatia!

You're not claiming religious classes are inherently flawed, are you?

I mean, sure, it's used in lots of schools as "religious indoctrination". In...well...rich countries it's the choice of the kid's parents whether or not their kid goes to "that kind of school". Plus religious indoctrination is prohibited in public schools.

"Religion" is as important a subject as sociology, history and philosophy. If you have a firm grasp of those things, you at least have some hold on human nature, so to speak.

In my old school, we had a class called simply "Philosophy" (levensbeschouwing, actually, which doesn't translate well), which encompassed both philosophies and religions. It's essential basic knowledge, y'know, unless you want to look like a dumbfounded moron when someone mentions Sikhs...

Of course once should learn about religions, that's basic culture, like philosophy or literature. My point is that students should learn about it from teachers and not crazed bible-thumping priests, i.e. religion classes should be factual, and not indoctrinative. You should get your A for learning facts about religions, and not for confessing one.

there's nothing wrong with religeon, it's the priests and followers that fuck everything up

I think religion should be taught in schools, but less mainstream ones (non-catholic) mabye teach a bit of tolerance and understanding or something. Plus it might be helpful while making fun of jews.

Not do derail the current derailing, but I have something on Napster.

Penn Sate is going to be the first university in the nation to give its students access to the Napster system.

The following is a search path of our paper:

http://www.collegian.psu.edu/script...e=query&HTMLQueryForm=/back_issues/search.asp

Basically, we pay tech fees through tuition and can download music from a controlled database. The music is in a proprietary format, cannot be burned to disk, is only available to the 20,000 on campus (of 40,000 total) and counts against our daily bandwidth limit like a hog at the trough.

points to ponder:
PSU has a RIAA consultant on the board of directors
The program will cost $1.3 million per year.
Cannot be placed on a MP3 player, etc, only on your hard drive
Was thrust upon us with little student feedback.

KICKER:
The campus system will be firewalled against Kazaa and the ilk after the Napster system is installed.

Conclusion:
PSU got bushwhacked by the RIAA and weenie administration. This is a TERRIBLE DEAL for students! Don't let your school be next!

Napster is Napster in name only, kinda like how "For Gamers by Gamers" means what it did before the French got involved.

Hehehe.... anyone seen "The Italian Job"... if you have, you know why I'm laughing...

Call me dense, but I have seen it and still don't know what your talking about. Is the way they removed the safe an allusion to something? Is Charlize Theron just hot? Wha?

You know... the one computer nerd who invented napster, and the one guy stole it from him while he was sleeping... thus this quote...

-You know why he named it "Napster" right?
- No, why?
- 'CAUSE HE STOLE IT FROM ME WHILE I WAS NAPPING

Gotcha

[Murdoch files away the knowledge that PIPboy2000 knows some really obscure shit]

j/k :D

Oh and Seth Green shall live on in infamy as not only Dr. Evil's evil son, but also as Peter's son...

(paraphrased): "Look dad there's a vending machine in the bathroom! I got a balloon!!!"

Place that!
