Need suggestion on which FOT mod I should try

I recently purchased FOT (I've won in Fallout 1 before, but not 2. I borrowed it from a friend, and plan to buy it soon).

Good game, but sadly, it didn't satisfy my fallout craving (which is why I got it >=P). I rather miss the freedom feeling of Fallout, FT is kinda... Linear. I miss making a character, exactly how I want em to be, and making them grow the way I want. blah blah.. FT lets you do that, but only with your main guy, which I might add is still somewhat limited seeing as I "had" to get a high charisma (which is normally low for me) to get those better recruits, and such. (and of course to get that awsome perk).

Truth be told, I also miss the "my character rocks!" feeling you'd get from the previous fallouts. (such as making a slayer-type character that just seems to shrug off blows, and kill people in a punch or two.. in FT, the baddies are significantly more powerful, but it's still not harder due to you haveing 6 people instead of 1). I rather like having 1 super-human instead of 6 so-so guys. (5 of which you couldn't really control the traits of, I mean, I think Ice for example is an awsome character, it's just that I don't think having her other tag skills as sneak and whatever the other one is (aside from small guns) very useful. she's a sniper for crying out loud, they shoot at a range, they don't need to sneak as much as say.. KEVIN, or that girl who is described as BIG.. thank the heavens mother is a good sneaker though >=) )..

err sorry. to the point..
Is there a mod out there for FOT that is more Fallout 1&2ish? I'm looking for an option that you can make ALL 6 characters from scratch (or maybe a mod that only lets you have 1 that you make from the beginning), that is also less linear? such as more world-map exploration. (I mean gimmie a break. the only use for exploring on the world map for FOT is to heal for free >=P). The experience in FOT is cruddy.. you'd have to kill 2,000 muties just to get the amount of experience as completing one mission. ugh. And to think they frequently kill my guys when my guy is laying down and they're standing up in one hit with a burst-mode machine gun.. meanwhile my sniper with 140% small guns and 10 perception somehow only has a 30% chance of hitting them.

bah. at least when they carry the odd browner m2 I get rich! >=).

again. sorry for my long-windedness, but I really would appreciate anybody that could point out some good single-player mods, maps, campaignes, (err. actually, the order of importance in those 3 examples is backwards) to make FOT seem more RPGish if you will.

I downloaded Deathclaw desert (never tried it yet though), along with jailbreak, and uhh I forget.. one more.. it's not a series, it's only one. I think it was a 4.2 meg download.. bah oh wells. anyway. any suggestions?

There are some longer user made campaigns in the works as well as more single mission ones.

One thing I'd suggest is to play FOT again but with only one character or two at the most. It is more difficult to begin with - you have to use a different strategy. You will level up more quickly because experience points are distributed among the entire squad, so the less team-mates you have the more experience each individual gets. There are also quite a few special encounters out on the world map that make it interesting if you search for them.

The game does lack the many quests that made Fallout interesting and some of the mappers are trying to include that aspect in their maps.

Otherwise you might want to consider making your own small campaign or joining up with someone who is making a map. Learning the editors isn't too difficult but it does take some time and patience to make a campaign.

Awsome thanks. though too bad any of those campaignes aren't done already. >=(. but truth be told. I haven't finished FOT once yet. >=)..
I'll try the 2 char thing though, (though I'm sure the vehicle missions will be quite hard), so I guess I'll make 3.. 2 that I'll always use, and one that I'll only sometimes use.

as for the editors, I'll probably do so later on when I know more about the game, and play around with a few myself for motivation. I do after all, love editing games somehow.

Once again, thanks for the info, FOT is really a good game, I'm just a critic >=P.

No it's not. FOT sucks. :)

Moo..... Moo.... I'm an Interplay Cow. (Ready to be milked with a Fallout style MMORPG with aliens!)

DU, can the critique - you are obviously underqualified to comment.

I don't think it's Dark Underlord who is underqualified given that you're suggesting someone play through Fallout Tactics with just one or two characters.

In FOT, the experience you get from killing monsters is divided by six regardless of how many people there are in the squad. Soloing FOT is fairly futile because you won't advance any faster than if you had a full squad.
