new pbp game

First time out of the vault
The Death of a Slave

There's an old game emerging in New Reno - bloodsport. The Slave Guild has built a gladiator arena out of an abandoned downtown warehouse and everybody wants a piece of the action. The mob families of Reno, the Mordinos, the Bishops and the Salvatores have each bought their own stable of gladiators. The games are fast, bloody, lethal and that's they way the people like it. The Wright family has stayed out of the new sport, publicly claiming that it goes against their morals. How any of the families could make that claim while living in the new sin city is anybodys guess.

Anyone interested in returning to the biggest little city in the world?

I'm looking for 3-4 players, but I've got enough story threads to handle more. It's set a little while before the events of Fallout 2 as far the timeline is concerned. I'm using the rules set from the Fallout PnP for character creation, but actual play won't require a lot of referance. If you want your character to be aligned with a certain organization, that's cool.

Since i'm new here, i let you know some of my gaming creds. Fallout 1 took me away from DOOM and Diablo. I soon discovered Dungeons and Dragons and never looked back. I've been role-playing for about 6 years now, and played a few different systems, the main ones being dnd, white wolf rpgs and larps, and call of cthulhu. i've been solely running games for the past year for the lack of dm in my area. I'm also writing a sci-fi rpg, buts thats still in the early stages.

If it works out, I'd like to have different threads for each character. That's assuming that they choose not to work together, or don't know each other. I'ts just an idea im tossing around right now. Like the game, there are lots of different factions involved in these gladiator games and each has their own agenda. Let me know what y'all think.

edit: 4 Dec -

Ok. here's some more info for interested players.

The ruleset used will be the Fallout PnP .pdf, V 2.0 w/ the Errata. It's available for download from http://pnp.duckandcover.net/.

Follow character creation rules from the handbook. I recommend choosing Human for your characters race, but im allowing Ghouls and Super-Mutants as well. No Dogs, Deathclaws, or Robots. All characters start at level 1.

There are character sheets available here, but I ask that you use this form for emailing me your character.

Aside from basic character stats, I would like two more things. A bio/description of your character that others will see, and a description for me detailing any goals/secert history/horrible secrets/faction affiliations that I should know about.

For starting equipment, be reasonable. I'm not concerned a lot with this, because it will partially rely on who your character is and their background.

For all that work, what do you get in return? The plot revolves around a Slavers Guild galdiator arena in New Reno. Most of the factions from Fallout 2 are represented, each with their own agendas. If you wish to start your character aligned with a particular group, let me know, either privately or in the forum.

edit: 1 Dec - I wrote and posted the first part of a story for the game tonight. It's called 'one more thing'. I'll write the second part tomorrow, it's called 'final victory'. Just some setting pieces, to get the mood right. enojy!

Got one. sweetness.

I don't know how you all handle character creation for the other RP threads here, but i like to have two things from my players whenever i start a game. their character sheet with the stats and whatnot, and a short bio with a general description of the character. I don't know if there's a char sheet for the Fallout PnP out there. I'll whip up a text file, so you can just input your stats and email it to me.

What kind of character are you thinking about? And don't worry that just because the game revolves around gladiator games that you need to make a combat machine. There's plenty of opportunities for other character types.

edit: here's a link to the character sheet. fallout char sheet

Sounds very interesting. It's good to hear that someone is bringing in new material.

Welcome to the Roleplaying Board, geekpocket.

Thanks Gunslinger, glad to be here. I'm just surprised that there's not more people here using the RP forum. I guess I'm used to DnD forums where everybody and their mother has their own RP thread. But i expected more out of a community based on a RPG, especially one with such an excellent conversion to table top gaming.

Welcome Geekpockets and I wish you success in starting this. I look forward to seeing how this turns out.

As for your posts- Well, from what I can discern from the old boards, Fang used to put together an RPG here from time to time and they would last a while and then die out. So far we have only two RPGs active on the site, but hey, that's better than Unwashed Villagers which has no fallout themed games going on. Not sure what's at DAC.

While we may be few, the posters are generally hardcore. We have been doing Lone Wanderers through three chapters and something around 500 posts so far. Kilrick has been going very well. I would expect that this new one will work as well.

Good luck with it.

Does that mean you're waiting for me to start an IC thread for the game?

If so, then allow me to clarify a few things.

I don't intend on running this game like the others currently in this forum. Im planning on using the traditional table top gaming system, where the players post what they are doing, then i reply with the effects and continuing story. I don't know how you guys adjucate the outcome of player actions in the other ones. I presume that it's mainly player-driven, with more of a story writing feel to it.

If i didn't make that clear when I announced the game, I apologize. That was why I was asking for your character before the game started, so I could work out with you individually how your char fits into the game. it also gives me the information i need to help determine the outcome of events.

If that's not what you meant, then I have no idea what you just said means.

GP- you might want to advertise among the other forums to see if you can attract more interested parties. Most of the other Fallout Fan sites with a forum have some RPG going on.

Welsh, do you mean I should move the game to another site or go to other sites and invite them to come here?

He's not pointing his finger to the infamous "Portal of GETTOUTTAHERE". And I wouldn't be so desperate as to recruit people from other forums (though advertising is always great). It's only that NMA has yet to encounter anyone who has managed to set-up a tabletop style RPG. Mostly (in fact, exclusively) the RPGs here are run through story.

People participating in this forum are somewhat ambivalent (at least, I am) about such a setup. However, if you can prove yourself capable of setting up this very great embargo, go right on.

An example of of character sheet details, statistics, rules, or whatever you're planning to use would be useful.

heh, I figured that welsh wasn't trying to give me the boot, but it's sometimes hard to interpret posts on the net, especially when you think about too much.

anyway.

this is actually the first forum ive found that exclusively runs story-driven games. i've seen and played in "regular" games before, so that's what i was expecting. Not saying that I dont think the story games aren't good. It makes for great reading. It's just I don't have any experience with that, and ive always played and ran dm-driven games. I might try to do that later, or join one.

As you said, you haven't had anyone successfully run a tabletop game. That just furthur encourages me. I will be the first! or I will fail in a ruin of flames. Either or, really.

I suppose the reason I didn't give out a bunch of specifics is because I assumed that the people in this forum would be familiar with all that basic character creation stuff. Or able to read my mind. Damn government regulations on psychic powers.

I edited the announcement post with more info.

No, absolutely I was not giving you the boot.

I have been taking a look at the other forums and they seem to be having trouble keeping decent RPGs going, in any form. In fact, right now, Lone Wanderers seems to be the only one that has had much staying power. Kilrick seems to fair among the best.

But there is always room for new ideas and forms, so try it out.

My suggestion was to bring those interested in playing here. Right now the RPG on this board has a pretty decent track record. There are people who are committed to it- and that's the trick- finding people who will stick.

I am pretty confident you might be able to find a few people on the other boards, but you will have to recruit.

Then once you do it, stick with it. These things are a pain in the ass sometimes as people come and go. You can't go. This is why the story style works better. Right now on Lone Wanderers there are really three different stories going on at the same time, but only like 5 regular players.

Speaking of which, we got to finish up that chapter soon.

LEt me reiterate- If I was to try this, I would do it here. The problem is that there are not that many players that will commit, I think because they are scattered among the boards. If you can bring them together, this would be the place to try it.

But recruiting, that will be the trick. I thnk the vault52 forum (not sure if that's right) looks pretty good.

For a number of reasons, I've decided to remove the game from the forum. I'm still going to run it, but as a play by email game. I have more experience with them, and I can't always access this website (my connection has a sometimes-working webblocker). Sometimes days go by when I can't get here, and I have no control over the blocker agent.

If anyone still wants to play in the game, send me an email to falloutpbp@yahoo.com
