New skins for your character?

It Wandered In From the Wastes
I know absoloutely nothing about fallout modding. So this is why im asking you all.

Maybe somebody could make a Mod to make your character look different. (Like Ian or Cassidy) Useing the stat menu. Or after you use the stat menu instead of going into the temple first thing. Im sick of seeing the same old character and im sure you are all too.

Nope, me not. :>

It is possible to change the view of the dude_obj, but the most of the other critters don't have all animations. That means, with (as example) the outfit of Ian or Cassidy, you can't use a minigun, a rocket launcher, and so on.

Well, it is possible to create the missing animations, but... I bet, nobody wants to do this work.

it's about a gazillion frames you would have to edit maually through paint, it's too much work to even consider. Get over it :P

I know continium had and siren have been making a lot of work along these line, but there's a few problem trying to get all the animations looking the same. I think the idea was to make a model and then fully rig it and animate it to run like FO. The you could just change the model attached to the rigging and generate new critters with relative ease.

As far as changing what model your character uses, this would need to be done with some sort of loader before you play the game.

Or once the models are done you could use FIFE to play with them.

Goddamn.

How long exactly would it take. :( i r sads now.
So how about grabbing Blender, reading some tutorials and learning to model yourself?
I Would. the computer im using at the minute cant play fallout 1 or 2.

Ive got a windows 98 and a gaming computer that i use to play games like FO2 , HL etc. But unfortunately i cracked the screen and fucked up the whole computer. So now im stuck with this peice of shit. The other computers getting fixed :(

Yes, I think this is the best way to create critters in relative short time. However you'll face a lot of problems:
- the most painful thing are movement animations,
- antialising must be off. This means a lot of adjusting of the geometry size. One pixel more on the top and you'll get better result and different frame(s) offset of course,
- low resolution. This means a lot of comparing (I've based all geometry and animations on the original FRMs), changing, testing, etc.,

Problems mentioned above almost doesn't exist when you're creating "static" FRMs (like scenery objects).

Of course you can always release critters which doesn't look good, but this is not the point, I think ;)

And it's much more easier to create completely new critter than "replacement" for the original one.

I can't remember the name for the images with the character wearing the vault suit, or the name of the images of those which use the tribal. There is a list somewhere on this site. You can use a program to take apart the critter.dat file. Just copy those tribal images, then rename those images to have the same names as the vault suit images. Put those images in a data/art/critters folder and, as long as you don't have a patch000.dat file, then when your character gets out of the Temple, he/she will be wearing tribal clothing. The other option is to add those files to your patch000.dat file with a program that allows to modify .dat files.

However, tribals are limited to certain weapons. There are no images of a tribal with a rocket launcher, for example. I think the only weapons you'd be able to use are thrown weapons, weapons that look like they are on your hands (like power fist), knives, spears...basically, melee weapons.

thx a lot, by_the_way, can u name it that program witch must be use to do that image change thing?

I use this program called dat explorer to take apart dat files. There are others, though, like datman and datman light.

Also, you might want to get a .frm file viewer to make sure you are looking at the right files. I use this one called titanium viewer (I think I got it over at TeamX).

for a full list of names of all the critters etc.. go here

http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5232

the default FRM model for the player is hard coded in the fallout2.exe file, dont worry its easy to change though with the loader or a hex editor, or you can rename the FRMs to trick the fallout2 engine.

Anyway there are 4 default models

Male - before vaultsuit movie (tribal male model)
Male - after vaultsuit movie (vaultsuit male model)
Female - before vaultsuit movie (tribal female model)
Female - after vaultsuit movie (vaultsuit female model)

They can all be changed easily enough, in fact you could start off.
