New Vegas Mod Advice

TailSwallower

First time out of the vault
I recently got a laptop good enough to game on, sold my 360 copy of New Vegas and got it on PC. So now I'm looking for hints on good mods.

My main concern so far is fixing up the console leftovers, like UI elements, inventory, etc (also the FOV because the default one makes me sick and the NV Configator doesn't seem to fix it like it should - I'm actually not sure any of the changes I made in it worked).

Other than that, what are some good mods that generally improve things and/or make it a little bit more like the originals?

ETA: I have seen this thread, but as the posts are all 1-10 months old I thought I'd ask for advice and avoid mods that might no longer work with new versions of the game, might have been updated, or might have been abandoned.

My last post on that thread (still the last post of the entire thread, actually), was edited within the past week. All of the mods I'm running still work with the current version of the game. The mods I've listed there may not address all your interests, however. The Nexus http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/ has different catagories of mods you can search, such as Bug Fixes, Gameplay Effects and Changes, etc. These can help you narrow down your search and find what you're looking for. Note that many of the mods in the Bug Fixes catagory were posted before any patches were released and may no longer be necessary, but I do have 4 from that catagory. You can also search for "inventory" or "interface", which may help you find mods that address your concerns. I don't have any such mods myself.

When you mention "the originals", are you referring to FO1 & 2? I have seen some mods that reintroduce some elements of those original games into FNV. One I recently added is "Classic M72 Gauss Rifle" http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37703. I finally reached a point in the game where I can get one and I LIKE IT! You can currently find over 50 such mods by typing the word "classic" into the search box.

Finding mods that are right for you, even with suggestions and advice, may still be a tedious research project. It was for me. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I'll check through your post in the other thread and just spend some time delving into the Nexus.
