I found this bit about Fallout Tactics pretty fucking hilarious:

"All the best things about Fallout rolled into a turn-based strategy! Tear it up with your squad in the most beloved of game worlds, the Fallout Universe."

Would that be the 'combat' part, since that's what the game is about? I guess the rest wasn't important anyway, so it's probably good they got rid of it.

I doubt Black Isle will dare to venture into something they have no experience in. On the other hand, seeing how they gave in to pleas to add tons of weapons, a car, and more stupid jokes than in one hour of your average primetime comedy show to Fallout 2, they just might be capable of supporting the idea.

FOOL & FO3

Do you folks think its possible that their making both FO3 and FOOL? This might sound a little out there but they would make money from FOOL and make the fans happy with FO3.

Already to Interplay, Fallout means a combat game. It's spirit is lost, now, apparently to them and the public eye. So what happens when the fans and reviewers that are brought into the series see the combat games, of which a MMORPG is fundamentalistically a kill-fest (though there is a promise of RP in Dawn, though it looks like it's going a bit slow)? They like the combat-centered ones and all.

But wait, it gets even better.

Like how those that loved the slashfest that Baldur's Gate 1 was, because it had a sluggish story and was a few steps above Diablo.

Enter in PS:T. A good game, but it got harsh reviews for being too wordy, not involved a lot of combat for the kiddies' adrenaline fix, and is held in high regards by the old-school audience.

Now think, with the combat games, what audience will be drawn in, and what kind of reviewers. It changes the public eye. From Interplay's beta site, it's already being seen that Fallout's good points are it's combat. I guess the rest wasn't important.

So when the combat-heavy games like Tactics and FOOL get good acclaim from the kiddies, and then all those kiddies turn to the CRPG, what do you think might be the result? Negative reviews and such like PS:T recieved, most likely. Then, to get Fallout back into a more accepted stance and view of it's now larger and to be blunt, dumber audience, they will have to pander down to lowest common denominator or risk more unfavorable reviews and such.

I think we all have to understand that not for everyone a computer game is something more than 'just a game', like Barbies and hide-and-seek. For these people games are just that - a time when they can click on the mouse and tap buttons to be gratified with 'cool' eyecandy. Experience and levels take the place of high scores, turning RPG into a sport. I can understand Interplay for making profits - that's why they are a company, not a club. I can hate Black Isle for continuing to deface Fallout, but hey - they are doing what they want to do. Either they like the process, or they like the big profits. We can't make them to do something they don't want, do we (don't even think about the physical solution, mister, it's illegal)?

No disrespect but I'm not a fanatic("Fan" yes, "Fanatic" NO!); I didn't mean anything toward FO 1&2 but if Interplay does make Fallout 3: Online, especially without atleast 1/4 of the original Fallout team then I won't see it as Fallout at all. Arcanum is going to be "Fallout 3 proper" in all senses of what we loved about FO 1&2.
I just feel that you could cover Arcanum and still remain "Fallout.gamestats.com" the Fallout site, who also covers other great CRPGs.
Fargo was not the only conspirator in Fallout.
