NMA opinion on....

So yeah making successful skill checks result in failure is a dumb design choice and equivalent of doing something dumb as making guns that shoot you instead or armor that hurts you with every step.
Who the hell said negative consequences is "leading to failure"? It should lead to different outcomes but more negative. The problem is that New Vegas has one while all others just lead to positive outcomes and that's pretty damn boring. Like i said, it means you don't even need to read what you are clicking and is that good game design? No, it isn't.

At least with the hidden check you have to read what you are clicking.
 
I do like it when in-game books and NPC dialogs contain otherwise undocumented tips and clues that must have been read about to be known.
 
The problem is that New Vegas has one
I could only recall with how you recruit Arcade (by being loser) and Dean Domino.

I mean looking at some Barter checks, you get the feeling that some NPCs might think they are being cheated or lose the best deal. I think there should be another possibilities where you can be generous or bribing them instead.

It's used in Atom even for minor dialog fluff text. Keep in mind the MOD makes it visible.
