No more Fo2 fanpatches?

PsychoSniper of DAC informed me that Celestial, who has made the various fanmade patches for Fallout 2, is closing down his efforts:
Sad news.
With my old hdd fried because of a power jump I think that I won't be able to release 1.06. There weren't any back-up copies of this so I'm afraid that the project is... dead.

Sorry everyone.
Thanks goes to all of you who helped me with it and waited for it's release.
There might be some hope tho, since it seems some of the people still have the old version of the patch but are missing the Abbey and EPA maps.

I dont think the fanpatch effor is dead, just the 1.06 patch since his hard drive got fried.

EDIT

That is, I HOPE it isnt a dead effort as Celest has done a great job with his patches and theyve done a shitload to improve FO2.

But wasn't there another guy working on a FO patch? I believe there were two 1.05 patches, done by different people, because I remember comparing them, to choose the better one, and both were pretty "big".
Edit: Actually his was called 1.03 - http://seraph.samods.org/

No clue, maybe one was a translated version of Celestials, or just a ripoff.

Celestials are teh best though, IMO.

I believe this is mentioned in the fanpatch thread - somewhere.
They are somewhat different. Seraph's patch isn't meant to include locations not originally included in the released game.

Celestals dont either I dont belive, well the relasesed ones wernt.

1.06 was going to includeabby and EPA, and maybe primitive tribe, not sure bout that one.

But 1.5 included the Abbey, or so I heard. Also, Celestial stated it was his intention to add features planned but not included in the final version of the game, including locations.
I believe Seraph's mod is only meant to fix technical, gameplay and content errors/flaws.

Celestial's was obviously going to be better in the future, but which one is better so far? Seraph has a lot of modifications too...
BTW, isn't there an "Abbey" mod already? I'm wondering how complete it is. I haven't tried it, but I saw it in the "top downloads" section.

There is no Abbey map in the original game, but someone made a mod with a small (i.e. tiny) building using the Cathedral sprites and a cellar serving as library.

IIRC Ian was meant to await the player in the original Abbey. He is however not included in that map.

Maybe someone should make a larger version of it with more complex NPCs in it?

Also, the mod's map's worldmap exit grid didn't work for me. Not very funny if you're trapped in a tiny place.

I don't think it would include EPA. I didn't really finish my share of work, neither did Jargo.

But is there a chance that EPA is going to see the daylight ?

Odd, Celestial seemed to imply 1.06 was meant to include both Abby and EPA.

He explicitly stated that if he used the old version of the patch for a release, it wouldn't include them. There would have been no reason to point this out if he hadn't meant to include them, certainly?

"The" EPA is never going to see the light of day since it would have to be done by Chris Avellone in accordance with his original design, and I can't see that happening. Same thing with the Abbey. From Ashmo's description the fan Abbey was little more than a token location that has about as much to do with the original game as pretty much anything at all.

Good point Per, but with the tittle in limbo fan creations are all we have.

Well, unless some of the old dev's like Avellone can be talked into making FO mods.

That would be so awesome
