Nonlethal Gameplay?

Jabbapop

Still Mildly Glowing
I've been playing deus ex, and one of the things that's interesting about it is that you can take down most of your opponents without killing them, although for the most part this really has no effect. In Fallout 3, do you think this kind of gameplay should even be considered? I realize one of the big parts of the fallout series is the combat system. but nonlethal take downs don't have to impede this.

in van buren they were implementing this

a fatigue system, read J.E.'s posts

Ive been wanting this for a while.

Once you KO them, you should be able to capture them and sell them (for a hi negative karma characther)

Now that would be cool :)

Initially, they said that silenced weapons wouldn't balance well. I have to agree with this for other reasons, after all, loud weapons were often a part of the sci-fi time from which Fallout takes its setting in part. But for nonlethal takedowns, I think a blackjack would be perfect for consideration. A good application of the melee skill would be that if you didn't have enough skill, there is a chance that you might kill them or not do anything but give them a slight headache. As your skill in melee increases, so would the ability to perform better knockouts.

Would thi be possible for a FO2 mod ?

You KO any raiders or other baddies, you use rope to bind them (or handcuffs, if theyre added as an item) and take them to a local cop in redding, NCR, VaultCity, Broken Hills for a reward.

You KO good guys, you take them to metzger, slaver in NCR, stables, a dealer in New Reno, or Vault City servent center and sell them.

Maybe add dialouge options, where random (and rare) prisoners will offer to show you a stash of some sort in return for freedom.

Then you get one of 3 random encounters once you get there.

1-people allready there, it was a trap
2-nothing there, prisoner maybe tries to escape
3-there is somethign there, you can let priisoner go or kill them up 2 you

i never wanted to do something as evil as sell them into slavery. :-\

speaking of fallout 3/bethesda/morrowind, in morrowind, there was no way to play the game without killing a bunch of people. i felt like a glorified murderer. doesn't anyone have any kind of humanitarian ideals in morrowind?

I would love the option for interrogation. How many times have you all wanted to beat the piss out of some bad or goody goody NPC for info or just to show him who the head honcho is.

for the most part, it wasn't. it just made you feel spiffy!

and i think some of the dialogues early on in the game were different if you played it cool, ergo, no kills. like the one after the first mission. after that, it really had no effect. which kind of pissed me off. but it's about roleplaying, eh? i like to pretend i'm a humanitarian!

Remind me, how was "nonlethal takedown" in Deus Ex different from a kill?

The little tag when you looked at fallen enemies read "Unconscious" when stunned, and "Dead" when, well, killed. That's pretty much the only difference i remember.

If stunned enemies eventually recovered from their sleep or stunned status, it could probably be more interesting.

it would also piss off the unacto chief if you didnt want to kill anyone and make yer little brother proud

but thats about it

I'm not totally sure that fallout is the place for humanitarian ideals. I always played the game pretty evilly in most cases. This was one of the first games where you could really be evil. Well not so much evil as just, well, kind of sociopathic in your outlook.

A "yeah.. ok I'll save all these people, but that doesn't mean I can't make a profit and bang some hookers high on some kick ass drug," kind of mentality.

I could be wrong though. 8)

It's probably be possible, but it would probably require way too much scripting to be worth the effort.

Yeah, your right Montez.

I just think it would be cool when you encounter a negative karma caravan to be able to wipe it out, and take the slaves as your own, or with what's her name that girl you rescue at V15, to caprure her and sell her, or or to KO redding miners and sell them to Vault City as servents.

Ah well, 'tis just a passing fancy I guess.

Hmm Non-lethal slavery

Okay, the dark side in me just wanted full destructability.. But now someone made a great suggestion on how to incorporate slavery into Fallout 3... Must ... Do... Evil... Laugh. Huaw ha hahahaha.

Sorry, I just wanted to say that the whole knock-em out the bad guys (yeah bad guys, thats right) and sell them to a slaver was a pretty good Idea. I hope they take a look at it. Kinda puts a whole new twist on random encounters.. Forget Geckos, I want raiders.

Or rape them yourself...

It's Fallout, afterall.

I like the idea, and though I usually play a goodguy type, I'd like the idea of being able to play the whole game as a slaver rather than it just giving you a few slave runs and some dialogue outside ncr. It actually add some depth to playing the wipe-out-a-city maniac type.

Basically, I just think the chance of a knockout when being hit in the head with anything should be like, 10 times bigger, even if only for realisms sake.

The one advantage to KO's that i see is that your character could be a badass without suffering consequences you would in the first 2 games. Say you meet some asshole with a big mouth, instead of walking away, you can just beat the shit out of him and take his stuff without the whole town entering into combat with you.
