NPC Will Not Join

First time out of the vault
OK, finally getting around to playing FO2. I've had it for a while but just started playing it a short while ago. I really like the game. But I'm preaching to the choir.

I've run into a strange issue. After telling Cassidy and Sulik to wait while I tried to, uh, romance to slaughterhouse daughter in Modoc, I can't them both to rejoin my party. Only one of them will join. If I go back to an older save, right before I journeyed to Modoc, I don't have the problem. The problem save is right before I try to "romance" the daughter.

My stats are the same in both save games. The only thing I've done between the saves is enter modoc, talk to a few people, do the "kill the dogs" quest and heal the cow.

Has anyone ever run into this?

Thanks

Would it have anything to do with your charisma? If your charisma is too low, you cannot "acquire" extra NPCs.

But I think that it would have to be extremely low to actually not be able to have more than 2 in your party at once.

What is your charisma btw?

It's a known bug. Search the forum for, like, "modoc NPC freeze", or something.

I believe a solution includes watching a certain video sequence in a bunker in a city late in the game.

Thanks for your posts. I've searched on that term and on "modoc npc" and found a couple references to NPC problems but not in the same point (my problem is before I even speak with the girl)

My charisma (in the good and bad savegame) is 5.

I guess I'll go back to the old save and see if I can pinpoint when the problem creeps in.

Did you by chance end up married to her? If so, she is taking up an NPC slot and that is why you are unable to get both of your NPC's back.

Try getting a shotgun divorce, outside Modoc, in the desert, then come back and see if they join back. If they do, then Miria has been occupying that slot.

Just FYI everyone. I have stepped through this and the moment at which it occurs is after killing the dogs to save brahmin for the slaughterhouse guy. I am definitely not married nor have I spoke with the daughter. If I dismiss one member, he will not rejoin.

Fortunately, this is only the case in Modoc so it is not that much of a hinderance. I can leave Modoc and everything works fine.

Aha, might be old Bess is the culprit, then. Go shoot the cow lying in front of the slaughterhouse, see if that does anything. Or fix her leg and sell her to Grisham.
