I don't think Syphon was killed off. I will fix it if it was. But SYphon, same rules go, if you don't want your character whacked, you got to post. Otherwise, he becomes excessive baggage that the others have to carry and it slows down the story. So Post or die.

As for the story goes, right now we are focusing only on what happened at the University and the move to get them.

It's simple, the group that was at the University (including Syhon, Rama, Prudence and Rogue) fought their way out of the University expecting a big fight with the abominations. But the sun came up and the abominations went underground. They fled across the field to a place were Lt. Lyall had a cache of supplies. But that night, they got hit again by the abominations. They continue to flee, but each night they are being attacked.
Why? well that's a mystery.

As for the caravan group- most of the caravan has been left to rest at the old strip mall. They are licking their wounds and recooperating after the big battle at the mission. A small group- Zoe, Grim, Talon, Gruug and Dreg included, have gone in search of Rogue. They have managed to get to the University which was basically a dead zone. Not even bugs survive there. Because this group is on horseback they can move faster. Whether the abominations are going after them, is unclear.

Finally there is McReady, who is badly burnt and driven insane by a brain probe the League placed in his head. He is going back to the University as well, though why, is unclear.

Dreg is dead. We got to clean out some of the characters and NPCs. Sorry Gruug, but the character wasn't doing that much.

We are recruiting new players. Some of you are older players waiting to pop back in. But there is a host of characters that are in need of play. Many have become NPCs.

Most of the NPCs will probably get killed off. But if you are interested in joining would like to pick up an NPC, let me know. We could use more players.

I'm interested in joining. About where should I join in?

Maybe I could just help out the group at the university, like I was passing by in another caravan and heard the screams.

Probably the best way would be to pick up a character that is currently an NPC. There are quite a few NPCs and not enough characters.

Sgt Cleary, Drake, Duke are all good ones.

I have an idea for the abominations that will make them a bit more interesting. SYphon, you are up.

Syphon is "dead" sort of. Sorry. You got to post if you want to stay in the game.

The story has taken the turn I wanted it to. Ideally this is more of a "horror" story for this chapter, involving one nasty critter. We are looking for players, especially to take over a lot of NPCs.

if you are interested, let me know. You don't have to take a character, but you could take an NPC.

Yes, Rama, sorry about that. I have forgotten to include your character here. Might want to bring him back in. Lt. Lyall is working them along a ridge line to a hidden arms cache, from there, back to the University to see if they can defeat the Abominations in home turf.

Story has been kind of dormant for awhile.

What is the interest in kicking this back to life anytime soon?

At present we have one group that is being pursued by these nasty abominations. The Grim character has been "captured". Zoe is on her own, and another group is looking for the first.

Let me know who is interested in returning to this story. There are a lot of characters without "players" who could be picked up.

Ok, seems reaper is back into it. I say lets get this section closing.

The story is simple- there is the original rogue group that is being pursued by the abominations. Zoe is on her own, Grim has been captured.

We need to destroy these things and get out. The fellow who is walking over there could be the final instrument of destruction to the abominations.

I say lets finish this chapter and move on.
who else is into it?

Got a message from Roguehex that he might be coming back, so old LW folks, we might be getting the old group back.

What is the story at present-

Note some spoilers-

Let's see the short and sweet. The team at the University escaped and ran for it, going East towards the nearest supply depot they could find. When they finally broke out the sun had come up and the Abominations went into hiding. So the group fled thinking they were safe. But that night, the Abominations surprised the camp at the dead of night, killing many of the group. The group held out for the night and fled the next day. That night they got hit again.

Now the group is moving along a ridge line. For reasons unexplained the abominations don't want to go up and get them (the reason is salt- there is a lot of accumulated salt on the hill side and it screws up the bio-chemistry of the aboninations- and they can't help but consume it when they try to grab the group). So by day the group is trying to get to a Slayer weapons cache, by night they dig in on the mountain top. The abominations eat anything organic, but come after the group every night. Why? Because that's how their genetic codes are programmed. They are like army ants, but were created as an organic sludge eaters, capable of consuming any hazardous or radiological organic waste. But they have evolved, and they not only consume the tissue, but the minds of those they eat. Syphon is killed when the Abominations use the memory and image of Kelli to lure him into a trap.

The abominations will chase the group until the group dies or they die. In the end the group must destroy the creatures at their source. As I recall the Lt, the sergeant, Reggie, Nat, Luciel, Rama, Thing One are among those still alive. Thing One has found the cache, only to also discover that the Cache is part of an underground network that leads back to the University. But it's dark and the abominations rule the dark places.

As for the rest of the group. The DeSilvas survived the big battle and are currently camping out in a derelict shopping mall. The Oprezki have been soundly defeated, this time, and the survivors are heading back home to get more friends.

A small group of the main characters has gone in search of the University group. Rogue, Gabriel, Zoe,Talon, and Grim, are members of this crew. Because they are moving by horse, their movements are quick. They arrived at the University in the morning and quickly figured out that there was no sign of life, but did find the tracks that led them to the site of the first ambush, where they planned to camp out. However, that night the abominations hit them- killing Drug.

The group made a rapid escape, but in the morning Zoe and Grim went back to investigate for evidence on the nature of the beasts. They tracked the creatures back to the pipe system in which the creatures emerged to kill off Drug. Both Zoe and Grim entered the pipes to get a specimen, but in so doing fell into a trap. Grim was able to hold off the abominations so that Zoe could narrowly escape, but Grim was overwhelmed. Zoe escaped to learn that the cell structure of the abominations is destroyed by the sun's ultraviolet rays. ZOe left to find the others, believing that Grim had died.

But Grim was not dead. Instead he was dragged back to the University where he is being interrogated by the the abominations central mind. The abomination can't figure out what Grim is- a man or a ghoul. The ghouls were smart- they had created the abominations as a doomsday weapon against mankind but created the abominations in such a way that the ghouls would be deemed poisonous. Thus ghouls are not viable prey. However, the ghouls were not that smart. The abominations have evolved to the point where they could kill a ghoul if the ghoul was a threat. However, the abominations don't know their purpose or meaning, and thus want answers from the ghouls, the way a child wants to understand from his father. The problem for Grim is he doesn't have the answers either.

While this is going on, we have discovered that McReady was the spy. McReady was kidnapped by League spies on a trip to the Big Easy and given a surgical implant. The implant reads his mind and sends him subliminal messages that he can't drown out. If he fails to act, the implant sends him sensations of pain. The consequence is that McReady is slowly being driven insane. The League wants to find out what happened to the recon group and suspects that the it's strike on the University was not complete. McReady is to penetrate the University and get as close to the source as possible as the League tracks his movements. When he finds the source of the abominations the League will hit the site with a bunker busting nuclear weapon- ridding them once and for all of the abominations, or so they hope.

If this fails, it doesn't really matter. The abomination mind is trapped, and the abominations can only go so far and feed the mind. After they consume all organic material within a given radius from the University, they will inevitably starve themselves to death, maybe.

SO that's the story. We are at the point where all parties are converging at the University for the final send off. THe key will to get out of there before McReady shows up. Once he goes under and the signal from the League dims, he will try to commit suicide. That will be the League signal that McReady has found the source, and off goes the nuke.

Hi there

I wonder if any other player on this thread is still around?

Welsh, if Roguehex does come back, it makes at least 3 of us (you, me and him)

Hey Zoe-

Well that's the question. Rogue, Reaper and Gunslinger have all come around from time to time, but I am not sure if any of them are willing to commit to the story. Rama is also around, but I am not sure how much time he can commit.

If only one were able to, than we could finish this up. To be honest, just the two of us "could" do it, but it would be a lot of work. Gunslinger would like the group that did Chapt 2 to come back. I would be happy with just one or two more writers.

The problem is time. I don't have much these days, for reasons that you know. The time I am donating to Kilrick and Wastelands is already thin.

So this is staying on the backburner until someone else comes back and says, "let's kick this back into gear."

In terms of substance, I think the chapter is half finished. The bugs have us on the run, we have identified them, we know what they are after, and the finale is on the way.
