Oh God....new Prince of Persia

I loved the "Sands of Time" games but this absolutely doesn't look like any of those.
As Ravager69, this looks like a Final Fantasy game, complete with epic battle between Light and Darkness.

Loved Sands of Time and Two Thrones. Warrior Within had great combat but sucked balls as a POP game.

This looks like shit to be honest. No Arabian Nights feel to it at all like the previous good ones had. Prince doesn't look princely or middle eastern or like a human being. His outfit is ridiculous, like a pirate clown from some silly Adult Swim anime cartoon. It looks like a random game with POP title slapped on it for no reason whatsoever.

The music in the drawing videos is pretty cool. Trailer music sucked and so did the trailer itself.

Yeah... even as a Final Fantasy fan I can definitely say that's way too Final Fantasy-ish for Prince of Persia. The hell are they thinking.

So...wait, what? That's supposed to be a Prince of Persia game?

No shit about the dialog.

Couldn't the characters for a change not always use on-liners but try to talk like real people?

Also that jumping from one magic point to another, isn't that from the 3D Sonic games?

Edit:

I just realized another thing: they are ripping of Okami!

I understand they're trying to get away from the time travelling concept, but it just doesn't feel like a PoP.

I dunno, the whole "never face more than one enemy" combat... they could pull it off really well, but then again, no fighting at least 2 guys... it takes a lot of posibilities away.

And I'm not buying the whole thing about Prince's partner... I hope it proves me wrong and ends up being another great saga, but that's not the case of my first impression.

Truth is, The Prodigy looks even more ridiculous than the previous ones. Just when you thought the PC couldn't breake the law of physics any more, they go on with some dual-action-with-a-ghost-chick bullshit. Really, this is more Disney than the Alladin game.

After playing Ninja Gaiden on the original Xbox, no other 3rd person action combat game has kept my interest.

This looks like it should be called "Prince of Persia: Final Fantasy XIV"

Probably one of the most european arabian princes I have ever seen, wait...he is still a prince of persia right?

He has enough belts strapped around his head. That's always been a final fantasy staple: an excess amount of belt wearage.

Jake gyllenhaal is going to play the prince in a movie so, go figure.

Every peice of media spat out just seems like a big joke to me.

I still can't get to grips with the concept of a PoP game where you don't die... repeatedly... painfully.

... funnily.

They should rename it "Prince of not Persia" or something (Prince of Generic Brown Platform Land?) to sate the fans or they'll be making a bigger mistake than when they made the Prince let his mum do his hair.

...

Well everyone else is quoting Yahtzee :P

In general a Prince of Persia game without the Sands of Time wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea but this game doesn't give the impression at all of a PoP game.

Instead of a game that looks like the stuff from Arabian 1001 Nights or something we get some generic Fantasy Land corrupted by darkness caused by some evil god or something, that's two boring clichés in a row.

The characters also look rather ridiculous and act like it.

The sands of time was a necessary gameplay mechanic due to the new games being faithful to the originals 1 hit kill traps. I liked it. I never played last two of the Sands of Time trilogy. They just looked too dark for me, both in visuals and violence - I know some people liked that, but most of the time I like brighter scenes and more toned down violence, especially when playing on a console where my nephew might be watching. I have to give credit though God of War probably never would have happened without the Warrior Within.

Yeah, the new one looks a bit too Final Fantasy. Also note the two person combat mechanic to make the gameplay next gen - two player co-op is always welcome, but sometimes hard to balance - I'm not sure if I would enjoy combat so over the top. I would say the game is still salvageable, but I don't know if they can make that much of a course correction before Holiday 2008.

It seems Ubi has at least "some" sense.
The Prince storyline was/is done. you cant get more than 2 stories out of "any"ones life without starting to sound/feel forced.(Unless you back the stories with other things like a generals campaigns then the generals... exile then his politic career etc. its the outside story that makes most of the book/novel, not just the generals own journey of life.)
They managed to get this story to cover 3 games without too "too" much filler. and strangely they even managed to leave him alone. kudos to them.
So now that Prince has gone to his home, its open seasion to use his name to bag some hype on a new game. And since Anime is so "rad", so "cool"; the new game is in the business to milk... i mean its time to change the game for Next-gen....
It might be a good game, it might be a bad game. but its cheap to use one franchise to support another new one.
(unfortunately reminds me Fobos :()
