Oh-My-God-There-Was-A-Giant-Bear-Behind-Me

It Wandered In From the Wastes
And I Only Noticed It when it chomped my ass off.

Did anybody had these moments with the yao guai? Also happened with radscorpions

I had a similar experience. I was wandering around near that Deathclaw infested town, and noticed something interesting some distance away. I started walking towards it, when suddenly the "A follower has died" message flashed up. I froze, thinking that was a bit weird, since I hadn't seen anything to attack on my way through. Suddenly I realised what must have happened, and spun round in time to see a Deathclaw claw me to death.

It was actually one of the best moments I had in the game.

Yao Guais are like nature's little warning: "Hey you, idiotic wasteland traveller. This a Yao Guai, and it can open that Combat Armor like a can of whoopass, laugh at those puny hooman rifle rounds and eat you. Now there's a big lizard-thingie called a Deathclaw. Deathclaws devour Yao Guais for lunch. So stop stomping around like you are the biggest thing the food chain has seen since Felines began to walk the earth and start to prepare yourself, or you are fucked. Thank you for you time."

Oh my god, there was a giant beer behind me.

Yeh, got this moments pretty often because these furry things are very stealthy. Also I don't like them very much... I think it is because the first time you see none of them but then later in the game you see them everywhere. The same with radscorpions.

Oddly I get jumped by molerats more often than ze bears. Tend to turn the tables and sneak up on the Yao Guais instead :P

Yea, Deathclaws are pansies once you get the dart gun, or use mines.

I dont know why. But I somewhat just totally hate it in games when enemies "spawn" in your back. Cause that is what happens in Fallout 3.

I mean I might be wrong, but how else to explain that in free open space "suddenly" like out of no where a rad scorpion or anything else attacks you when there was nothing before.

or the terrible shotgun with a smallarms skill of 90+

That's the joy of Beth's "levelling" system. It really adds to the immersion having new enemies (like the bears and radscorpions) appear as you go higher up in levels.

I've never had one spawn / appear behind me though. I tend to be careful, and sneak around a lot.

I think you'll find i can run into Scorp's 'n Yao's and even D-Claws at level 2...

The 'levelling system' would merely level them to my skill capabilities (Level 2 style...) Unless i'm completely fookin mistaken about how FO3 works.

As for.. "surprise!! Butt-sex" moment.. I think the Yao-Gooey are just a little bit too quiet at times... I'm sure a foking 6 foot+ mutant bear would make SOME noise as it moves up behind...

*Edited* i can't spell...

Yao Guai surprise buttsecks are the only reason I picked animal friend perk. It was clear to me when 3 of them jumped at my butt at once. xD

And Yaos make a quite weird sound when breathing, but that doesnt save you from being chomped :D

If they sneak up on me and don't kill me within the first couple of swipes then they recieve a face full of shotgun, that seems to clear things up. The reservists rifle also does wonders on them, or anything for that matter.

I suppose they're there, but you can't see them due to the actor distance limit, another fantastic feature of the Oblivion\Fallout 3 engine.

And yeah, those teddy-fucks were ridiculously fast and quiet. You'd think a creature of that size will take it;s time to run up to you, 'cause like, it's BIG and stuff.

About not noticing a Yao approaching... I assume you tried to improve your PER and walk around with your radio off, ain't you?

I have a character with low PER and I keep having fiends jumping at my back. Damn! Even those wild necrofags use to munch my ass a little until I notice! xD

BTW anyone noticed that the Yao Guai, as well as the Deathclaw looks and move strangely similar to the trolls in Oblivion?
