Opening FO1 maps in BIS Mapper

I found an old thread made by @Sduibek (and with helpful input from @.Pixote. , @Darek , @Nirran ) about how to make the BIS Mapper being able to open Fallout 1 maps.

I followed the instructions on the thread, getting the software needed and a couple days invested in this, I finally made it work. The Mapper opens and I can choose the maps I want to open.

Unfortunately, I must be still missing something. Because most maps will not open and instead give one of two errors (one crashes the mapper, the other just doesn't load the map), others will just freeze-crash the mapper.

Here are the two errors.

Map not loading:

By the error messages, it seems like I have something wrong with "objects" in my setup.
Anyone has any input or help? I don't really want to edit or make maps, I just want to be able to access FO1 maps.

Thanks for reading.

I just finished following the steps in Sduibek second post and managed to set up a second mapper folder, completely separated from my main Fallout 2 folder and from my first mapper folder I normally use. I didn't edit or added anything but most Fallout 1 maps I tried did open without errors in this second mapper. If I did anything different from Sduibeck it was to use FO12 critters editor to convert F1 critters to 416. And to make the all setup completely independant from my main F2 or F1 installations.

So I am not sure what you missed, but I could upload my second mapper set up somewhere if you want to check or use it directly. Only slight problem is that it contain the entire extracted data from F1 plus vanilla critter and master.dat (Sduibek version without F2 maps for easier navigating) from F2.
I guess I can send the link by pm when the upload is complete, in case the above is really a problem, or strip the folder from these files and let you add them since I doubt this is where you went wrong?
Did you delete the perk.msg from the F1 files, renamed/deleted the sound folder, changed the script.lst and ai.txt, converted the critters files?

Oh well, the folder isn't big without the games files so here is the stripped version:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/cko94iuht9w0m69/Mapper2.rar/file
Change the relevant paths in mapper2.cfg if C:\Mapper2 doesn't suit you.

Just let me know if you need the one with the games files and I will send a pm link.

Yes, I did all of that. Otherwise the mapper wouldn't even start, it would just open and close really quickly, if I recall correctly.

Thanks for the upload, I will download it and try it out :ok:.

Just tried your files and after adding all the game files needed, it seems like it's working right away :-D . It even works on my Windows 10 machine... I had to use a Windows XP machine to make my one work (and have all of those errors).
I compared the mapper2.cfg settings and they are the same except I had "override_librarian=1" instead of 0. Then I compared the m2_res.ini, they are the same except the last map opened, which is irrelevant.
The only guess I can make is that I somehow had some corrupt or not proper mapper files... Since I'm still using all the same extracted files and the critter.dat and master.dat from my previous attempts.

Anyway, thank you very much! I have been fighting with this for almost a week without any results and even had to dust off a WinXP machine. You're a life saver! :notworthy:

Really? Well glad it was that easy. Insomnia isn't as good as it used to be for my mind, I could have swear to have at least kept the converted proto files plus the script.lst and ai.txt in the stripped rar, but looking at it now, I didn't.

I wanted to try this method to edit F1 maps in mapper since a while anyway, your post reminded me of it and now the set up is ready in case I would need it so thank you too.
