As promised a few days before on http://fodev.net (our new website about FOnline engine related games), we are releasing the source code of FOnline: 2238 with some additional tools.

The source code is a snapshot of the game code and content from the time shortly before we closed the server (some changes introduced during the final days were reverted). The access to the original repository used for the development of FOnline: 2238 in the past, with all the revisions up to this point, will stay closed.

Server and related tools

Client + Mapper

More tools (with sources)
https://github.com/rotators/tools

Alternative Download (those files will stay as they are, any further changes on github won't be included)

Autogenerated documentation (using Doxygen) (the Reference section is the most interesting there)

For those who cannot wait to run your own server and look around from a whole new perspective, we prepared a short tutorial which should help you with the first steps as an authenticated character in the game world. Have fun!

I haven't looked into it yet, but thank you for releasing it. I guess this was not an easy decision.

It actually wasn't. At least for the most of us.

I personally wouldn't have cared much about going open source even a year ago.

The zip is 186mb big and includes more than just exe files.

Well... did you try the other links?

Also, Mapper and FOnline itself is still closed source. We have no power of control about them. The open source release is only about FOnline: 2238 server files.

So it's half open source - server side is open source, but the client isn't... Maybe you should correct the name of the topic to "Open source FOnline server" then.

You obviously do not understand. This is the open source release of FOnline: 2238 and not the FOnline engine. The topic title is correct.
