Per's Fallout Guide update

Per has sent an announcement on the update of his Fallout Guide.<blockquote>I've updated my Fallout guide to version 1.1, growing from 227 to 274 kB. It's now about as ultimate as the Fallout 2 guide, relatively speaking; this is the first time I've made use of scripts made by Noid's decompiler as opposed to the earlier one by TeamX, which has helped clear up a lot of things. As an additional piece of news there is a new set of HTML help file presentations of the guides available at http://koti.mbnet.fi/ckv/downloads.php, made by Pasi Ruokola.</blockquote>Per's Guides are an excellent resource, which anyone needing game help should take a look at.

Why not a plush Cthulu?

Well Ive read Per's Fallout guides and found them to be the best. Not only for the series, but he's in depth writing is unlike that of any walkthrough Ive ever read. The fact he still found a way to update it is a testament to that fact.

I love that cute little Cthulu...

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

The definitive Fallout guide, as far as I'm concerned. That boy needs to get himself a decent domain name, though.

Holy crap, the best just got better. Love the new format. Talk about beating the crap out of a standard text file...man, and putting them both into a single downloadable archive.

I was able to do things in Fallout 1 in my last playthrough last Fall that I've never done before in a dozen playthroughs because of Per's guide, and after however many years it's been since the game came out, that put a big old smile on my face. And now the guide's been updated again. Simply outstanding.

That reminds me to upload them to NMA later today, great work Per.

Simply stated- when in doubt, check Per's guide.

I had thought you had finished these Per. Nicely done.

Per is the authority on Fallout.
Kinda like how people say "Check Webster's"*, we say "Look in Per's Walkthrough".

Damnit, if only they'd recognise "Services to CRPG fans" in the Honours list. ;)

I actually thought that the guides were finished,, it's good to see they are a work in progress. Thanks Per.

*Incidentally, I've never seen a "Webster's" dictionary. Must be an American thing imprinted on me through shitty American sitcoms and movies.

Two thumbs way up.

While I honestly knew *most* of the information in Per's guides (though not the wasteland one), I'll freely admit there was still plenty I wasn't aware of and lots more I wasn't *positive* about the specifics.

They also happen to be the ONLY guides I've ever seen for Fallout 1/2 that DID have anything in them I hadn't already figured out. Considering how long I've been with these games and how many FAQs, walkthroughs, guides, etc I've read over the many years, I find that pretty damn impressive. :notworthy:

Oh, I have a huge file of things to check and update for the Fo2 guide, so there'll definitely be another update, although it'll probably be a while yet. People are still sending me stuff and new things pop up - for instance, after reading the todo file that dude_obj found, I found out that geckos will run around picking up Meat Jerky and Iguana-on-a-stick if you drop them on the ground before a fight. I had no idea there was such a thing in the game.

Yeah, Daniel Webster was an early American statemen who printed a dictionary. Since then his name has entered the public domain, but since Americans still associate his name so much with dictionaries, every company slaps the name Webster's on their product.

As for are movies and sitcoms, if they are so bad why do so many foreigners watch them? I mean, I think half the stuff to come out of the entertainment industry is dreck, but the stuff still sells aparently.

Aha ... that explains why I see this in the gecko AI packet:
chem_primary_desire=284,81,103
chem_use=always

I thought that was a mistake when I saw it.
284 Meat Jerky
81 Iguana-on-a-stick
103 Iguana-on-a-stick

I also discovered by accident that geckos can pick up punching weapons and use them. In my mod one came after me with a punch dagger that was supposed to be loot. Another strange thing happening now is cockroaches that can open doors. According to AI packets, many others will go for iguana-on-a-stick including cyberdog and robobrain. 81 seems to be the primary chem desire default for all of the party members too (myron, marcus, etc).

Because TV programming is equally bad in other countries. It's just exported more from the states.

Also, I watch very little TV/Movies. But a lifetime of them still leaves a mark. Mostly I think they sell to the TV companies who see them performing well over there.

Actually, now that you guys mention it, I vaguely recall something about the description of drymeat that said it can distract certain attackers.

So that makes sense. :)

Trappers in Klamath sometimes say: "Some animals like drymeat so much that they’ll run for it instead of you." Cornelius in Modoc says something similar about the dogs watching the chicken, but it doesn't work on them.
