Pip-Boy 2000 wrist-mounted or handheld?

I'd say it is handheld, because your character in 1 and 2 doesn't show it on their sprite, although that might just be because the devs didn't have the time to draw it out or were just too lazy.

The reason I'm asking this question is for a RP I'm doing with an IRL friend.

There are references in 2 to the Pipboy being on your wrist but the official lore is that it was handheld with some optional cumbersome Wrist mounted models

The Fallout 1 manual says its wrist worn. And I think there's never been any part of the games which say the Pipboy is handheld so I don't know where that came from.

In my stories, it was produced with an optional strap to mount it on your wrist. You could hold it, but it would probably be very cumbersome.

I always thought of it more as something you hold, and the wrist-mounted versions would most commonly appear on power armor, being that the wrist-mounted edition would be heavy and clunky.

From whatever references you can find to the Pip-Boy, it seems to be wrist-mounted. Even if you disregard descriptions of it being wristmounted, then there's the fact that characters can see the Pip-Boy on you throughout Fallout 1 and 2. I recall a conversation in Fallout 2 where someone points to that "Map thing" that you have, and unless they can see into your bag that probably means it's wrist mounted.

I also seem to remember that Van Buren's Pip-Boy was wrist mounted, but I'm unsure whether it was meant to be a different model.

It's wrist mounted, but that's not what you see in the game. :(

Those vacuum tubes, the diamond wire mesh, and the CRT screen are impossibly large for a wrist mounted device. Compare the size of the number counters at the top. They would be the size of mustard seeds on a wrist mounted PDA; and the back of the screen would extend into (and through) the wearer's forearm.

Still... The Fallout manual states that it is wrist mounted; (on page 60).
