Planescape Tornment - you DID it! You MADE me do it!

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
I got my order of PT on Friday... BECAUSE your replies ( as well as PC Gamer review ) depicted it such...

So far I've just got to Lower Wards (right?), and here's overview - BlackIsle did a good job in making me believe that this game is HUGE. Music/ambience, these crazy buildings... Lots of info, unfortunatelly Sigil in PT is not REALLY City of Doors - it's just a game, even though I never saw anything quite like it. Now, where is that blasted Morte?

And what's really nice is that the humor isn't so painfully explicit like in Fallout 2. No cliché Monty Python jokes, stupid anachronisms or other such stupid humor. You do get a pretty quick-witted skull, and deep NPCs that ALL talk unlike some like Vic and Cassidy.

Have fun, I'm only on my second round through the game..

I'm more than halfway through my second game, but something's gone wrong, and I'm not sure if I can get to the Curst Prison again, so I'm starting over.

Is this me or...

Triggering bugs in PS:T is a piece of cake?

For example, did you see those times when someone has to talk with you? He approaches you to talk but you continue with the ability to move you and your party.

I found that if I move 3 or 4 hexes, the NPCs disorients like penguins and you can skip that script and therefore, lose a vital quest in the game.

Hehehe. I've never heard of that one before! I know there are several exploits, but I thought they fixed all the bugs in the patch.

The reason why I had to start over was because I killed someone who was part of a quest and I'm not sure if there's a way to finish off that quest without him. I'll say no more as MatuX and Arthur would probably enjoy it more without knowing anything more than they already do.

RE: Is this me or...

You got the patch? I've never had that happen to me before. However it does bomb out every once and a while and sometimes won't allow me to run PS:T (directX bug or something) if I've done something else on the system. Still a good game..

RE: Is this me or...

Too slow, though. Loading of maps takes a lot of time, and P:T even dares to mess with CD/harddrive while I'm on the map! It really slows things down, and very annoying, considering that I have a computer far exceeding the configuration recommended on game box.

Here's how you fix that..

Oh yeah, the game is extremely slow if you don't copy all the CDs over to your hard drive. Trust me, it is WORTH the disk space. Just make a directory on one of your drives, copy over the entire contents of Disk 2, 3 and 4 to the directory and edit Torment.ini to tell it where to look. The game loads up maps about 20 times faster and I'm not exaggerating. Even the most complex of maps (like the Lower Ward, you will see), will load up in only a matter of seconds, rather than maybe a minute or so.

Oh yeah, you downloaded the patch right?

The game starts to get really slow after about an hour playing because for some reason there's a bug with emptying the cache. So just set the cache to ~1 mb and you should be fine.

RE: Also...

It's not 4 cd's, it's 3. You don't need the install disk after you've installed the game. I personally have only cd's 3 and 4 on my HD, because since you still need the 2nd cd in the drive to start up the game (copy protection), I just deal with the semi-delayed (I have a good speed DVD-rom, so it's not too horribly slow) load times on the 2nd cd areas.

Yeah but that's a fraction of the time you'll wait for screens to load, and swapping CDs. You only need to copy CDs 2,3, and 4, not 1. CD #1 is the install CD, it has no data other than what is already on your hard drive.

If you have a CD burner and another CD drive to copy CDs, put one CD into each and copy them at the same time. That's what I did.
