Question about the 10mm Pistol and the Chinese Pistol

First time out of the vault
If they both use 10mm, why is the 10mm Pistol stronger than Chinese Pistol? Sorry in advance if this is in the wrong forum.

because we all know that american design is better and more reliable than chinese. duh.

Exactly! Just look at the Stealth Boy and the Hey Guy in Fallout 3, were the Stealth Boy was reverse engineered from the Hey Guy the Stealth Boy still has a lot biger Stealth Field  !

Amazing how a small wrist mounted stealth field is far more superior to an entire suit designed for stealth. Not to mention that the stealth boy is an unstable prototype.

Though oddly the Chinese Assault Rifle is far better than the American version for no discernable reason as it uses the same ammo.

To the OP, no clue, just seems to be Beth's weird way of thinking how weapons work.

now, not to defend Beth or anything... but it's not like the guys who made the original games had much of a clue either ;)

Well, because the 10mm Pistol is *enchanted*, think of it as of teh "Chinese Pistol +1".

Fits perfectly if you ask me.

PS. I think you may take it that the bullet looses kinetic power and accuracy due to the cheap material used to make the gun \ bad design (micro-curves inside the barrel? yeah, I know it's BS, but still some kind of explanation). In Fallout 1\2 you had 3 weapons with the same ammo (.223 pistol, hunting rifle and bozar) that dealt totally diffrent damage. Don't be too hard on the game on this account.

Well, technically, according to the game, the 10mm SMG is weaker than the 10mm Pistol when it comes to Damager per shot (7 vs. 9); however, in Fallout 2, they were equal in damage.

However, wouldn't it make more sense for the Chinese Pistol to fire slower, beccause of it's older design? A better way of balancing would have been it to have less spread and higher magazine.

What is even more puzzling to me is, if the weapon is worse than the weapon that people in the Vaults have in the game, which is the 10mm Pistol, what's the point of getting Chinese Pistols?

So that the Raiders have an even crappier weapon than the player so that they don't get overwhelmed with the standard 10mm Pistol.

the chinese 10mm Pistol seems anyway to be modeled with the Mauser handgun in mind just like the "Combat Shootgun" with the PPSch41 machinepistol (or as how russians would say Pa-Pa-Shah)

Raiders have never overwhelmed me. And that's when they have Chinese Assault Rifles.

I got a couple of mods which means raiders with even Chinese pistols can overwhelm me :P

The mauser pistol actually makes sense as the Chinese did adopt the design, though quite why they are using it in the 2070s is a bit baffling as no one else is using variants of second world war weapons... well in the previous Fallouts anyway... well just in Fallout actually now I come to think of it.

The PPSh-41 is actually a submachine gun not a machinepistol (which oddly the c96 can be converted to) but as has already been said in previous posts makes no sense being converted to a shotgun, especially with the clip so far fowards.
Though there is an AK-47 variant which is converted to a shotgun which might be where they got the idea from.

It's just bethesdas way of "balancing" certain things. Don't ever confuse what beth does with reality. I am making a mod which deals with this among many weapon issues, maybe I can get it out in a few days (low motivation unfortunately). But yeah in reality the high tech 10mm would be probably slightly more accurate than the chinese pistol (C96 mauser) but damage would be the same. Maybe beth didn't like the idea of raiders with useful weapons early in the game..you know might damage the players self esteem too much when they get killed alot.

Another "fun fact" the "assault rifle" in game is essentially a "G3" which IRL would tear the shit out of pretty much anything and be quite accurate at range but in game of course that's a different story. Oh the list goes on and on really. List a weapon and I can tell you why it's fubared but I'd be here all day.

the mauser C96 was probably one of the most famous guns in the communistic world since the 30s and 40s. The Russians even made a song about it "now comrade Mauser! Speak!" or something like that ...

I guess it had the same kind of status like the Luger or Colt in Europe/US.

Errr... this was Mayakovsky, that somewhat crazy poet of the 1917 revolution. "Your word, Comrade Mauser", blah-blah.. So it's not 30-40s, but rather the period after the WW 1st. I don't remember anyone in Soviet Army using it during WW2, it has been replaced in 1934 by TT-33 - more compact and modern design, closer to Colt M1911.

But yeah, isn't it really weird how a lot of weaponry in FO3 looks so antique? I mean, there's the whole 50's athmosphere, but were the guns from 20's really necessary?

I would say "no". And in any case, why were the Chinese STILL using that kind of Pistol anyway? You would have thought they upgraded it by now.

The chinese have a super advanced stealth suit but still use swords and 20's weaponry. F*** YEAH BETHESDA

Well not used widely in that time yeah. But still fearly popular or at least "known".
