Rage E3 2008 trailer

Newsflash: Rage unmoddable?

Yeah right.

People will always find a way to hack and modify a game.
"A few mods have become popular and are nearly games in their own right. Early modifications of Battlefield 1942 were produced without a SDK. Later a "Mod Development Kit", Battlefield Mod Development Toolkit, was produced by EA to help development of mods." Source here

So far, it looks like a good game. If id Software does it right, then it would be an interesting combination of elements from Fallout with Mad Max style vehicular combat. It looks like one of the factions will have some sort of genetic mutation though, unless radiation somehow mutated them all in the exact same way :P. The game looks like it will have a similar atmosphere to Fallout 3, a dark, gritty post-apocalypse scenario. However, id has a good track record of making simple but, overall, fun games, whereas Bethesda seems to have been declining since Daggerfall. :falloutonline:

Also - id Software's making something other than a pure FPS?! The Large Hadron Collider must be starting to warp reality already! :nuclear: :aiee: :nuclear:

Rage is getting a Digital Distrubution.

And the storyline is as follow

"You play a survivor from the past; one of many people placed inside a "cryo-ark" buried safely beneath the surface. The plan was that when it was safe to return to the surface, after the impact winter and the dust settled, your ark would emerge, and you would then work with the other ark inhabitants to rebuild society. But that plan went haywire. More people survived the impact than anyone predicted, and those survivors rebuilt society on their own without a government, without laws or rules. When your ark emerges and you begin the game, you discover a world that is much different than what you expected -- much harsher, much more dangerous. There are a number of different factions that are vying for control in the wasteland. There are settlers, mutants, and different clans of bandits, all fighting to survive and for control.

As the game begins, the first thing you need to do in this world is learn to survive on your own. Then you must work with the settlers against the bandits and mutants. Ultimately, you will align yourself with a small resistance group fighting against a mysterious force in the wasteland called the "Authority" -- a regime-like government bent on controlling everything. some new rage details:

Game will include:
■An engineering system to craft devices including sentry turrets and RC car bombs, if you have the blueprints and parts.
■Your health regenerates--a gift connected to your history.
■Races and missions are available from hub towns.
■Vehicular combat is a big part of racing, with power-ups and ammo placed around the courses.
■Weapon upgrades, such as a scope and aiming stabilisers for a crossbow.
■Alternate ammo types, including a crossbow bolt which allows you to briefly control victims before they explode.
■Stealth is an option in combat too.
■A gladiatorial game show named Mutant Bash TV offers big prize money.
■A car parts system allows boosts to areas such as acceleration, traction and suspension.
■Other car upgrades include bombs, a magnet to draw power-ups, tire shredders and EMP shields.
■Multiplayer modes are currently not finalised.
■One weapon is a three-tipped boomerang called the 'wingstick,' which will return.
■The PC version will offer higher resolutions, more anti-aliasing and faster texture page-in times, but the three versions are essentially the same.

also the setting:

the player character is one of the lucky few who escaped a terrible disaster--an asteroid strike--safely in suspended animation inside an 'ark' deep underground. An earthquake cracks your ark open early, and you awake to find the crew dead and databanks ruined, so you stumble out into the wasteland.

There you find the tattered wastelands living in fear of a mysterious group called The Authority, who for whatever reason offer a hefty bounty for turning in ark survivors. Your mission naturally involves discovering just who The Authority are and what they want.

:) dunno about you but this is mad max fps meets fallout fps to me
Arks = Vaults
The Authority = The Master

wouldnt be too surprised if the story develops along similar lines to FO1 but with CARS !

anyway looking forward to this

This game can't come out soon enough.

I wonder if there will be quests to get some awesome car parts or upgrades. Or is this not that kind of game?

See that fat dude? That's what characters sould have looked like in Fallout 3. I'm talking about style and design.

i have no doubt in my mind that mouse and keyboard control will be fluent (as it always is with carmacks engines) - but hasnt been so far for consoles. its a sucky statement but when i think on how much ids been giving to the pc crowd over the years i'm not fearfull

new mutants trailer / teaser
feels like fallout sans 1950s visual style

Me too. Something about it is sort of in the same vein. I tried explaining it before but nobody ever knows what I'm talking about.

Looks a lot more like Fallout than Fallout 3 does.

As I mentioned in this thread before, it's a shame that id makes awesome engines but mediocre games.
