Rambo, violence?

World of difference, dude. Rambo II and III showcased some pretty over-the-top action, but John Rambo may as well have been a snuff film. Wasn't it skirting an NC17 rating at one point?

That said, I don't think the violence was necessarily unwarranted or overdone-- then again, we Americans tend to feel about violence the same way most of Europe feels about sex-- in a word, "meh." A lot of European television commercials are too racy to even air on late-night network TV over here. Different audiences, different standards.

Listen ashma, if you're such a sissy why did you even watch it?

GOD I wish I was a board cop right now. Listen, jemmy, why don't you go read some of the threads in The Vats for a quick primer on the don'ts of posting here? It'll do you some good in the long run.

'Of course not...'

'Then you ain't changin' anything!'

That and his "Fuck the world." line made me say "Damn." out loud in the theater.

Nope- doesn't work like that.

Jeremy-
Thou shalt not flame
THou shalt not troll.

Two strikes in one thread.

So Ashmo- Rambo is basically a snuff film? I disagree with what you said about First Blood, but Rambo 2 and 3 were so fucking stupid, I haven't bothered to see the most recent. Stallone is trying to save his career by recycling old characters. But I think FB, for what is basically an action flick, had a stronger character than evolved in the sequels and a more interesting message. Rocky was a great flick, and has declined since. Sequels are awful things.

I'm going to echo my sentiment that Rocky Balboa is as good as Rocky and Rocky III

I'm with Malky on this one. I think the latest Rocky has a lot going for it.

The new Rambo isn't up there with the first one which I thought was a really solid movie. However, it's still entertaining.

First Blood was a completely different movie from any of its sequels and it was fantastic. Rambo 4 is the most similar to it but it's not nearly as awesome. Without the violence, it had little chance of being successful or remarkable with that budget. The violence was a genius marketing move on Stallone's part but it was in bad taste, if you ask me. It was inspired by the actual events but it was obviously there to sell the movie as it was way too unrealistically grotesque to be "educational". So, I do agree with the TC although I quite liked some scenes, such as the boat scene. It was badass.

Rocky VI was the only Rocky movie that bored me to the point where I couldn't wait for it to end. I loved Rocky and Rocky V (I may be the only one, I know), the rest were silly but entertaining, the last one was

These two movies have some weird vibe to them, like Stallone was motivated by this great desire to come off as a really wonderful person. Both of the characters are badasses with big hearts who do something really selfless and amazing and walk off, in the most simple manner possible, away from the impressed looks of the whole audience both on and off the sceen. I'm not saying that I didn't enjoy a few moments from the movies (moreso from Rambo than Rocky) but this is like a 7-year-old's fantasy. WTF? I can't be the only one getting this vibe from the movies? The guy is in great shape for his age though.

I enjoyed the cheesiness of Rocky VI. As for his physical condition, that is down to working out and using Human Growth Hormones (got caught in Australia).

Growing up I was a big fan of the first three Rambos and still am. Rambo IV was great and I look forward to the next Rambo that is supposedly in the works.

They really went over the top, eh? And that's only the bad guys.

I was never that interested in Stallone's movies. The only Rambo I watched was First Blood (on German television) and it wasn't bad.
Never cared about Rocky. Maybe I should watch the first one some day.
