Random encounter system back?

*GM rolls a dice behind his screen*

While travelling late one evening you are beset up on by something, you've encountered...

oh hang on, sorry no, this isn't an RPG is it, I'm in the wrong place! silly me I thought Fallout was a Post-Nuclear Role Playing Game (you know I've heard that phrase somewhere before... just cant seem to place it)

Ah well I'll leave all you FPS gaming fans to your business.

*Folds away GM screen and scoops up dice*

Really? There's going to be no random encounters at all? Because even FO3 had random encounters, even if they were relatively limited to certain areas.

*Waves bye to Dunguns and Dragons fan*
" You forgot a dice" *throws dice at his head*

They could put in encouters like in F1 & 2. Like if you fast travel somewere you could be stopped by an encouter.

*You have encountered GOD. Now he will kill you because you aren't worthy*

Man what the hell, i loved the encounter system in Fallout 1 and 2, i mean not in the beginning but at level 40 what else do you have to do after you killed and rampaged throw every city and place, but search for enclave to cut in halve.

I wasn't a fan of the earlier encounter system. When I quick travel, I just want to get to my destination. The encounters seemed more like random nuisances than interesting challenges or events.

Fallout 3's were randomly generated, mind you only in certain areas, but they seemed less inconvenient for the sake of being inconvenient. I would guess that New Vegas will include some more of the random 'world encounters' like traders/raiders or special one time events (like the spaceship crash).

I'm surprised no one mentioned this, but doesn't the Wacky Wasteland perk add random encounters into the game?
